    Default UPDATE brazing torch cylinders

They are now recalling all cylinders purchased prior to January 15th 2012

    includes all the following makes

    Worhtington,
    Rothenberger
    Turbo Torch
    Magna,
    Lenox
    Ace
    Bernzomatic
    Uniweld
    Craftsman
    Goss
    Super Ego
    Castolin
    Nevax
    Bromix
    Ameriflame
    Hotery
    Go System
    Turner

The cylinders are Black or Yellow in clour

If your cylinders have a black or white diamond on the top shoulder they were produced after 12th Jan 2012 and are not in the recall.

There is no suggestion that the recall is connected with the death of two technicians at the start of the year.

If you have any 14.1 oz (400grams) Map Pro, propylene or a 16oz (450 Gram) Mapp cylinders it is suggested you return them to your store of purchase..

If any are have their burner connected or have had the burners removed (it says), take them outside, connect the burner if neccessary and light them and let them burn of the contents until empty.

And either dispose of cylinder as per the instructions on the label or return to your store of purchase for a full refund.

Doesnt say if proof of purchase is neccessary, and as its an Aus wide recall i'd say it isnt.

    Thanks for that info.
I have a Mapp Gas Rothenberger, a relo gave me in Dec 2011, second hand.
Its been a useful tool but I have been very wary of it after reading an earlier report on the Forum about the accidents with these things.
Mine is a yellow cylinder with no black or white diamond on the shoulder, can I take it back for a replacement, as I do not have any details of original supplier ?
    regards
    Bruce

I have about 12 or so and I cant recall which ones I got from who..

(I get them from at least 6 different suppliers.)

As I am always buying them from my nearest supplier on the day, I am going to take them all back to the last supplier I got the last few from and get a refund/replacement from them...they can argue it out with their supplier.

in other words, if you get them from Bunnings or the like take it back to them and insist you got it from them...let them make a claim from the supplier on your behalf.

at $21.00 bucks a pop They will all be making their way back to the (a) supplier for refund or replacement....................I wont be throwing them in the bin

You where saying about the cylinders costing $20+ each. I was going to buy a kit before Christmas and the plumbing place quoted me $10 a cylinder. Maybe they where these ones and they where clearing them out, LOL

Anyone have any experience with the turbo model burner, they are supposed to get a lot hotter. I still need to buy one, at the moment I don't really care what burner it is, as I need more heat than propane.

The turbo map gas burners are great! I have a bensomatic with the adjustable output nob.. It really cranks the heat out. Not close to an oxy setup but great for small work. I picked up the turbo version when my other mapp burner was playing up. There is a big difference in the output.
By the way, I use the dark green primus bottles from big w with my old map gas burner. It works fine. Not as hot as the blue bottles but for $6 I can hold the flame there for a few seconds more. The blue bottles are around $20 and mapp is about $30. Where are you guys getting your mapp for $10?

    Yes Ray
apparently the stop valve in the cylinder can or may jam open when you remove the burner.

and no one has been injured by it yet.

remember guys the new ones should have a little diamond on the top shoulder of the cylinder...my new ones do

Thanks for the info Ben, it was a local plumbing shop that gave me the price when I rang then before Christmas. They wanted something like $140 for the standard kit, but I think I will but online and get the turbo model instead.
