    Default My pratt chuck

Just to show all the tooling bargins aren't in Bendigo. Here is a chuck I picked up to file in the "gee I hope I use it one day" draw. Its 310mm in Dia, my lathe will spin about 165mm over bed. It might infact be more use on the mill.

    Hi Stuart,

Very nice, a 12" 4 jaw would be a very handy thing to have around.

    Looks heavy...what does it weigh?

    Hi Ray,
    I hope you're right.
Fancy making an old man go out in the cold!
Chuck is about 32kgs, adaptor(which I may or may not be able to modify to use) another 4kgs. Thats just about exactly $2 a kg.

    Hi Stuart,

Sorry about making you go out in the cold, $2/kg it's worth that for the steel alone! that's as good a deal as you'd get in Bendigo.

    Regards
    Ray
PS How are you going to fit it? Camlocks?

That will be a handy chuck on the rotary table with the T slots in it, good score.

I'm not exactly sure. I'll have to do some measuring. The easiest idea I've come up with so far is bolting it to the faceplate. That may make it to long for the gap though.

Good score Stuart. I just paid twice that for a 10". I guess you'll have to get a bigger lathe now.

What type of adaptor does it have? You could bolt it straight onto your rotary table. Unless you have the 3 slot rotab like mine. And I guess you don't want to remove your camlock adaptor. Or are you thinking of mounting direct to the mill table?

Where the hell do you find this stuff??!! I've been keeping an eye out for a 4 jaw independant to throw on the rotary table for ages....

Good pickup Stu. Looks like the jaws are reversable too.

    Hi Bryan,
No bigger lathe for me just yet lol
I'll post a picture of it. My rotary table has 6 slots so I doubt I'll be able to bolt straight to it. I'll have to try and pick up some 1/2" plate. I think the camloc adaptor would have to come off as it uses a lot of Z axis. I'll certainly come up with a direct table mount(which may or maybe not ever get used lol)

Hi J&H, I spend way to much time shopping lol

Hi Dave, Looks like it, I haven't even tried to take the jaws out yet, I guess I should get on that tomorrow and make a chuck key
