I've just ordered a right handed one in the new 12mm size. I'll let you know what I think when I've given it a run.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I will be spending some toy money.

Got mine (right handed) about 2 years ago. It is my most used tool.
Love it.

I've had a chance to test the DTH. First impressions are very good. The supplied HSS tool bit was only partially ground, so I had to finish grinding the profile on my bench grinder. Boy is that Cobalt HSS hard! The job is very simple thanks to the jig, just time consuming (I only have a 1/2HP grinder).
I have tested the DTH on MS bar and Delrin, and it's fantastic. Turning and facing can be done with the same tool setting. It peels off long curls of steel without the use of coolant and didn't show any sign of bluing or blunting. The Delrin almost has a polished finish on the face.
I'm looking forward to testing it on some more materials soon. I can see this being the first tool I put my hand on for most jobs.

This is one small problem with a DTH, long curls can be a pain(for starters it wont go up the vacuum). I've found most times that if you push the cut harder it will break up, of course you dont always want to do it. One of these days if it ever worries me enough I'll try a chip breaker groove.
What sort of wheels do you have on your grinder? I grind my HSS on a little Elu(?) I don't think its even 1/2hp. Starting from a square blank I dont recall it taking to long. What size HSS do they take again?

I've got 38A white oxide wheels. 46 & 80 grit. The tools are 1/4".
Is yours M42 cobalt HSS? It's considerably harder than the M2 tools I have.Chris

I think that all sounds about right. Thinking about it, the Cobalt HSS I have is 5/16", but the 1/4" HSS I used for the DTH is just cheap stuff so forgot what I said about the time, sorry.
