    Default DM 45 Standaco speeds

Just wondering if you chaps who bought the yellow DM 45 are happy with its spindle speed range....... Is it 6 or 12 speed ? And if it is 6 speed: Is that good enough fpr general milling ?

Mike, the DM45 has 6 speeds, 3 in Low and 3 in High. To my knowledge all the xx45 mills have 6 speeds.

You can see the 6 speeds here

I am just about to change to a 3phase motor and VFD, so it will be variable speed.

Having said that, I haven't really experienced a limitation (yet) with those 6 speeds.

    Default Ok

    Thanks Fred

Its just that the ASSET version is 12 speed according to their specs: QUOTE

spindle speeds (rpm) 75 ~ 1600 number of steps (steps) 12

Might be a mistake on their part ..... probably is .

SM-MD45. Mill Drill. Steelmaster Geared Head Drive Mill Drill, Dovetail Guides, Digital Depth. - Asset Plant & Machinery
Let us know how you get on with the conversion please
    thanks MIKE

I think that may be a typo as the photograph of the mill clearly shows the H/L lever and the 3 position speed lever. It also shows the same 6 speed table that all the other xx45 mills do.

I like the Asset stuff, my lathe was supplied by the and I am very happy with that (and their service)
The MT4 spindle would concern me a little, harder to source tooling for that from the usual suspects. The digital readout on the spindle is nice, and so is the tapping feature.
