Hi all. I'm new on here. I have just found myself with proper shed space for the first time so I'm taking full advantage of it.
Here are my recent tool gloats

I just picked up this beautiful Schaublin 102 TO 1948

A bit of a project lathe I still need to sort out a motor, a bench and try to reverse the V belt modification but it's in great condition for a 64 year old lathe.

I also picked up this 4" dawn offset vice. A bit rough but a new paintjob, a new set of jaws and it'll be as good as new

Thanks phil. I'm enjoying being on here and mining all the old thread knowledge all ready.

I just had a look issatree and interestingly every offset vice I could find is offset on the same side as mine.

Oops my fat thumbs just hit the thank button again...

My offset vice is also the same way.

The 102 looks good, that was on eBay recently IIRC. I hipe you can fix the drive. I'm sure BT will be along soon with his offerings of appropriate catalogs etc, he is a gold mine of schaublin info.

    Default Thats What I Thought.

    Hi Again,
Being a Leftie, It is just a bit awkward on that side, but I suppose one wood get used to it..
I have a Dawn 5¼in. with the quick adjustment, most likely an Engineers Vice, & is very handy with that quick realise.
It does need a new set of Jaws, but they just don't want to leave the Vice, so I am putting up with them.
    Thanks for your answers.
    Regards,
    issatree.

Issatree, dawn make a range of fabricated vices
    dvice.jpg

Again, they don't have a left side offset but with that principle in mind you could probably fabricate one up if it was important to you (the design looks pretty basic). Perhaps even contact Dawn and ask whether they do one as an unlisted special.

    Hello Gus,

    Welcome.

I do have a few 102 catalogues in scanned form. The closest to the vintage of your 102 is a 47 page French copy from 1952. I also have a black and white scan of a 1943 German SV65 and 70 catalogue. A lot of the accessories are similar apart from their scale. Then to assist with the translation, there's a 1960 English version for the 102 consisting of 87 delicious pages. Then there's the 13, the 53...........

Let me know if you are interested.

    Hi all,

Joined quite a long time ago and went dormant...

I'm starting to kit out my workshop a bit better so here's a few new bits and pieces. Picked this up for $1200 with mill, stand, vice, chuck, arbor and collet set and set of end mills. I've picked up a face mill and clamp set to go along with it.

Picked up a surface plate for $50. It's 600x600mm cast steel. It has a busted corner but I'm going to cut it at 45degrees for a good reference point. Not sure how flat it is but it's certainly flat enough for what I need it for (and the surface looks in very good condition).

    Cheers,

    Matt

    Hi Matt and welcome back.

I was almost going to bid on that plate but didn't. If you want to check how flat it is you more than welcome to bring it over one day and we can check it on my tombstone (granite surface plate)

    Cheers

Thanks mate, thanks for the offer. I may take you up on that one day. Although it would be out of curiosity more than anything. My worship is not up yet as I have just moved so it will be fun getting that in place! The fellow selling it said he bought it from Grays and was sold as a 500x500 size. He got to Melbourne and found it was 1200x600! Obviously he cut it in half.. Did a decent job of it too.

I may have the drawings and parts list for the fabricated ones on and old h drive .Strangely enough, the ones we had the students making at school where the same dimensions and could be made in left or right hand. The slide differed as in the Dawn model, the slide was a C channel fabbed from 3 flat bars. The school model used a 75 x 50 x 5 C rolled channel and the screw was all thread instead of of Acme thread. The difference in the Lh was the (to be) bent gussets are merely flipped over and marked and pressed for L hand setup.

    Default Old 32V lighting plant

Not tools but a gorgeous little US made Stearns 32V lighting plant from the late 20's or early 30's. Automotive style honeycomb radiator with cooling fan, integrated engine and generator design, OHV. I need another project like a hole in the head, but I couldn't let this one go by.
