    Time for my tool gloat...

Mizoguchi boring and facing head... 100mm diameter, NT40 arbour..

Seen very very little use, has not been used since the 70's when it was repossessed so I was told and I believe it..

You get a real appreciation for tools when you feel how smooth this is in action.... it is hard to describe but the smoothness is well, smooth..

Came with all accessories too which is a bonus...

    Nice pick up RC.
Will be a handy bit of gear.
I have been keeping my eye out for one, but nothing so far.

    Hi .RC,

Nice one, is that an digitally programmed automatic advance, like the Wohlhaupter? (I'm looking at the numbered buttons around the edge)

It is virtually a clone of a Wohlhaupter UPA4.. The instruction manual for the Wohlhaupter works for this boring head..

It has 12 feed rates for facing...

Hi, I have a smaller boring head of the same brand that came with my mill. It is complete except I have no instructions. I paid H & F to photocopy a set of Narex instructions thinking they were the same as mine but no go. Could someone tell me if there is a direct equivalent in the Wholhaupter range please?
Mine is a model MU with an ISO 30 taper, the feed mechanism is different to the one posted by RC. Thanks, Mm.

That one looks brand new unused.....

From what I can see that is a copy of the Wohlhaupter UPA3. The UPA1, UPA2 and UPA 3 all shared the same set of instructions... I take it yours is a MU3 model?

Here is a link to a thread with some manuals for that series of Wohlhaupter. Unfortunately they are not of the best quality but it gives you something to search for anyway... Wohlhaupter UPA3 manual - Practical Machinist - Largest Manufacturing Technology Forum on the Web

Here is a link to a UPA3 that has some decent photo's to compare to yours

    Helllo Phillip,

Do you find the opportunities to use the head restricted due to insufficient vertical clearance on your mill? I'd given up on the UPA-3 and have been looking for a UPA-2. Sadly, the chances of finding one attached to a 30 taper are real slim.

    Hello R.C.
Thank you very much for posting those links, mine has the markings MU NT 30 on both the box and the unit. I would say it is a close copy of the UPA3 by looking at the instructions and pictures. I did not realise it was so capable. When I got the unit it had one of the supplied tool bits sharpened so it had been used, but not very much at all. I have used it twice, the first time I wanted to machine a taper in piece of 40mm thick aluminium for friends yacht steering mechanism, hence the inquiry to H&F. I ended up doing the 'taper' by making small steps, it was not a critical application but it would have been nice to do it properly just for the sake of being able to do it. Thanks again.

    Hello Bob,
As I said above I have not used the unit much so have not (as yet) had any height issues. I am sure they will happen occasionally, especially now that I can use it properly but I can live with that.

    Regards, Mm.

    Hi RC,
I want one now, though I doubt I want to pay for one lol
To get these back to the start do you have to run them backwards? or is there some way to get them back faster?
