The word gloat has always made me cringe.
Anyway.... here's something I purchased recently on French Ebay. I like the little retaining plate inside the case. This is the first lugged back indicator I have seen from this manufacturer. Flat was standard.
The beech case is substantial, a far cry from the flimsy indicator only packaging.

Old Marine workshop, brought out and shut down
A local former shipping operator was brought out by a large company a few years ago.
They shut down their workshop and just last week Auctioned it all off.
I had an opportunity to buy gear without having to fork out for shipping
from the other side of the country for once.

I saw a nice looking cincinatti milling machine there, plus a nice slotter..
Was it an expensive auction?
Some of those auctions in those sorts of placed can be either expensive, as everyone is chasing stuff due to it's rarity, or it goes cheap as no one is interested....Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

I picked these up when in the big smoke yesterday.
Eclipse Magnetic Base and Indicator.jpgMercer Dial Indicator.jpg
An Eclipse Mag Base and a Mercer Dial Indicator. Bothe made in England.
$25 all up. Dunno how good these brands are but they look well made.

Apart from a bit of surface rust on some parts, most of it is in pretty good nick as far as I can tell, with the exception of the rotary table which has had a dose of water internally. I've got it stripped right now and the major parts are all OK, but the bevel gears in the gearbox for the external drive have teeth that were sitting in the water/oil slurry at the bottom and the lower teeth look pretty sad.
Current plan is to give it all a birthday and re-assemble it, but probably minus the external drive gearbox internals.
Its actually too big for my own personal use unless I cam up with a job requiring it on the shaper so I can see it going to another home eventually.

Hiya .RC. Most of the gear went for what I would regard as fairly cheaply. Two of the smaller lathes went for $2,000 each and they were in fairly good condition. Of interest to me just because of its size was the 4 metre between centres Colchester which looked in very good condition. It went for $17,000 plus fees, good value I thought for a business owner.
Multiple old steel and wooden topped worktables/benches went for top dollar, so there must be a market for them at the moment.
I hate Auctions but I did well out of this one so I'm pretty happy about it

Hey Ray,
I've yet to find a cheap Narex, Don's probably got the only two cheap ones in Australia. Whilst searching in vain on Ebay.de for a Wohlhaupter UPA-2 on the weekend, I did notice a couple of 3s being auctioned. At the time the bidding was around 70 Euro. Plenty of buy it nows with crippling prices. Given your Linz outpost, you may be able to acquire a UPA -3 or 4 at a reasonable price. A large number feature Deckel 40 taper arbors.

Here's my latest dial acquisition, another Zentimess, this one needs some attention, a clean and oil (luckily BT has done it already!) and a nice Tesatast DTI. These are the cheapest dials i have bought yet....$10ea.
