"I got given a Hyco Bandsaw and picked up this drill press off Gumtree for $40 "

In the drill press deal , did the seller throw in the boots ?

I wouldn't fret too much over that. So what if it doesn't have a morse taper?

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to have a rotary table, which is a bugbear. Makes it much easier to line up the job if the table can rotate.

But for the money it's a bargain if it drills straight and accurate.

I see it was made when I was still at high school

    Cheers

It will still be fine for drilling, if you want to fit drills bigger than what that chuck will take you will need to fit a bigger chuck, or use reduced shank drills.

I have a floor model with a MT 2 and the bench model with that same set up as yours, but don't change the MT that much as I use the mill instead.
When I was given the bench one it had a slightly bent spindle, it was an easy fix with having a mate taper as I just turned it down a little to get it running true.

One thing about these older drills is they are nice and solid, it will take you and a mate to lift it.

Picked up a 300mm mitutoyo digital veriner today for $143, suprisingly from crime converters today, they had a %20 sale on, its still like brand new, looks and feels like its hardly done anywork and well looked after.

had a brand new one priced up through work and the retail is $500+

Very nice, they probably paid $30.00 for it, thieving sods.
Have taken unwanted equipment there before and was given about a quarter of what they sold it for.
