At first I thought the're probably not ground and/or matched or at least precision made. But for $10 each I wasn't complaining. Since then I've put them on a surface plate with a piece of ground bar sitting on them and measured the height at each end. They are within 0.02mm which is so, so. But highest V has a small rough rusty spot on the base. I think if I clean it with some steel wool and kero, I can get it a little better, certainly to within 0.01mm
H & F sell them for $119 each and I think mine are better quality!
Love a bargain but at the same time I really felt for the guy. He would have been in his late 60's or early 70's. He lost his wife 8 months earlier and was moving into a retirement village. He had a lovely shed with a nice warm feel to it, the warmth you get from a shed that someone has spent 30 years in. None of his kids have an interest in working with their hands. He said if he didn't sell it then it would all have to be thrown out as there will be no room where he is moving to. How does a guy walk away from that without a feeling of devastation?

True, you spend so many years gathering gear, then one day to have to give it all up.
I think I would go crazy without something mechanical to do.
It doesn't look like my grandfather is going to a home/retirement village, but I always said if he did he would be in the caretakers shed either helping him or teaching him new tricks, LOL
Those blocks sound great, I have a few matched pairs different sizes, but only on single block with a clamp.

Not a tool gloat as such but just as good in some ways. Yesterday I scored the full three volume set of Workshop Technology' by Chapman. The set belonged to the father of one of the former techos at work. About 5 years ago he brought the books into work and I pawed them lovingly and he let me borrow them for a few days to have a look over. Anyway the techo eventually moved on to bigger and better things but we keep in touch and a couple of weeks back he emailed me to say he was having a clean up and asked me if I would like the books.

Today's tool gloat.... Nice little tilting machine vice...
Jaws open to 270mm or so wide... It is a Vertex..
Been used a tiny bit, but pretty much as newGold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

Gee your out early RC,
Nice score, it looks a solid design and I like the rack on the side for tilting it.
BobL,
Nice of him to think of you instead of giving them to someone else.

Good one RC. Just how much does that thing weigh? It looks about the side of my shaper vice + some for the fancy base. Is there a clamping bolt of some sort on the end with the angle adjuster or just the two bolts at the other end?

Not so much a tooling gloat, but more to the power of Ebay and the internet. I’m planning to do a service on my Veto van on the weekend. I was looking for aircleaners, when I stumbled upon a set of Front brake pads. $55 bucks buy it now. Postage was a bit dear at $22, but I got them here this morning for $77.
I've been quoted locally $170 for after market from Repco, and they would be more than that from Benz.

Have any of you blokes ever seen / used this brand of mag base drill?
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
It worries me, that its almost too cheap. I have a job coming up, 6.750m bar of 200 x 25, that needs about 190 holes drilled. M12 tapped holes and 13 dia clearance holes. For that money, if it survived the job, it would be worth it.

Well long story short I partially killed my Aldi cordless hammer drill. It now looses 1st gear from time to time. And no I wasn't working it that hard.
I happened to drive past Total Tools in Carrum Downs Vic and they had a big sale on so I thought I'd drop in just for a "look".
Walked out with one of these:
GSB 18 VE-2LI Professional - Cordless Impact Drill/Driver - Bosch Power Tools for Professionals
The slightly older version of that one, drill is the same but it had the 2.6 Ah batteries not the newer 3.0 Ah.
Drill came with 3 batteries and they threw in a Bosch drill bit/driver kit.
All for $299! That is about half price of retail for basically the top of the line 18 Volt drill.
Then on the following day I bought the LED work light just because it would hook up to my batteries.
GLI Vari LED Professional - Cordless Torch - Bosch Power Tools for Professionals
Cheers
