Is there a way to tell how much adjustment has been used on the bearing?

No, but you can see by the condition of the ways how much use the machine has had... The plain bearings would last a long long long time so long as they are correctly lubed and adjusted when required.. I have adjusted these back up... The manual calls for 0.01mm end play..... This had 0.02mm when I got it... I do not have any of the correct spindle oil (velocite 3) so am waiting until I get some before I fire it up again...

One other thing is the motors on it are 240/415/480 volt... The machine is prime for a VFD retrofit and run off single phase if required....

The ways look to be acceptable.... Probably won't have to break out the scraper for this one. It has been bastardised a bit... They have put metric dials on the machine, probably during the metrication of Australia in the 70's.. Spindle downfeed is 2 microns per graduation, but a fine feed click moves it 2.5 microns (0.0001") same as the cross feed, one graduation is 0.04mm but the fine feed is in inches...
Bloody nice, and a big plus it was in easy driving distance.
Now keep those cows outa the shed.

    Hi there Aaron,
When you say outing, Where do you head to for these bargains?
Are you going to a dealer? or are you hitting garage sales?
If a dealer, It looks like a good place to know of.
    Have a good weekend

    Aaron,
just in case it has you puzzled: JK6 is the German abbreviation for "Jacobs Konus" (Jacobs Taper) No6 - so this is not some different German standard.
The "<- Auf" next to RÖHM means "<-Open" in case you are wondering...

    Default stuff

    hi every one.
this chuck came with a small arbor and sleeve to suit a drill press. all my chuck's are Jacobs brand
and key operated. i haven't got around to finding a mt3 arbor yet so this chuck is doing a great job
an a drill press. its very smooth to operate and grips the drills very well. It cost $70.
this doesn't sound like absolute bargain but im very happy with it. the guy is not the cheapest around
but does have good quality gear. When i see something that is what i was looking for i don't bargain.
just pay up and thank him. He does give me discounts but not all the time. for example
second hand tool holders seco ect $50
Ive brought i fair bit from him and wonder where he gets his stuff from.
matt ill send a pm. regarding shopping places.
no 6 is a common size i think.
talking of bargains. just wondering any one interested in a
    schaublin 102 bm lathe?

$70 isnt much more than you'd pay for a Chinese chuck about that size.

    Nice score!

When the chuck on my HM 50 died i bought a new LFA 16mm keyless. The LFA's are French made and very nice. I think it was close to $200, but hopefully it will last my lifetime! When you do the jaws up with nothing in them, you cannot tell they are 3 separate jaws.

Nice price Harty. I'm not green because it's too big for my mill. Closest I've come to a B and F head, a Wohlhaupter UPA-3, was when I checked my saved searches on Ebay one morning and found a 3 for 300 bucks Buy It Now. Of course, when I checked it out it was already sold. It had been listed 15 minutes earlier in the States. I reckon a smaller UPA-2 would be a better size for me but the chances of finding one with a 30 taper arbor are about as high as you buying another boring and facing head for $162.50
