Bl...y typical, always finding these things out after, I did that once with an old CB AM radio, threw it out and a week later I get asked to make a rocket ship play house for an autistic lad. Any time you are going to throw something out, why not put it in the classifieds, never know someone could use it. My biggest problem is that I'm bit of a hoarder.
I'm currently making a milling vice out of a drill press vice that was broken and thrown out from the metal supply place that I frequent.

Picked up that Hilger and Watts Autocollimator that was on ebay... made an offer and it was accepted, as the seller told me.. Sitting it the shed it was worthless..... The TA3 model that I got is ex-QUT and in really good order by the exterior anyway... The TA3 model has an electronic eye in it that is supposed to give repeatable accuracy to 0.04 seconds of arc in perfect conditions.. I think 0.04 seconds of arc is something like one gnats hair height in 1km distance.. But of course the electronic meter unit is missing in action just like seems to be the case with 99% of these autocollimators.. Not to worry though it can be used optically through the eye piece..
Generally accuracy when reading off the micrometer drum is ~0.1 arc second..
Also missing is the mirrors that would have been used with it... I believe over time the mirrors must just vanish into thin air, as while there are a fair few autocollimators on ebay, there are very few mirrors..
Luckily HDD platters can be used as a mirror source, and quick and dirty experiments, they seem to give a nice reflection..
I am looking at adding a USB HD web cam to the eye piece to make measurements more reliable..Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

TREASURES
Junk or treasure ?
Another swap meet haul , this morning
The Mitutoyo mic has weird anvils ? The item was 10 bucks
The milling cutters I bought from a toolmaker who is downsizing $5 each - he had a unusual little milling vise, compressed air provided the force that clamped the jaws , 3" jaws I think.
The most expensive items, the adjustable Sutton reamers . To give an idea of size, the MT reamer is 1 1/4"
Where do you stop ? Its an addiction

Hi Mike,
They are for measuring easily crushed items with small anvils like hair paper plastic etc. etc.

Hope the link works. Apologies if it doesnt.
Pick it up next week. Still waiting to cop an earful when the SWWMBO sees the bank statement and realises I bought something while on holidays!

Good value. 2 micron clock is very handy thing to have. You might want to check the collection times, it's this week Thursday and Friday, I'll be there on Thursday, so I could pick it up for you if I had the appropriate paper work.
I think I'm also picking up a supramess for MarkG, although he hasn't asked yet..

All my current DI and DTI are 0.01mm or 0.001" which are fine for most of my work but since I got a SG I figure it may launch me into the micron teritory!
Hi Ray. I shot off an email to Grays before I put a bid to see what the latest possible collection dates were since I wont be back in town before Friday. I got 4 replies from 4 different people from Grays quoting a multitude of dates! I just choose the date that suited best! Ive since emailed them to confirm the pickup date but yet to recieve a reply.
Hey Ray, if you were to pick it up for me, do you think you could post it to me then?
Cheers

Hi Ray,
I just looked at Grays requirements fof a third party to pick up the item. It will be impossible for me to organise that paperwork from where I am. Thanks so much for the offer but I think I will have to pick it up as per my original plan

Bloody hell Ray I think you must be psychic.
Have had a wild 24 hours here with a fire from a lightning strike in a stubble paddock last night meaning not a lot of sleep. Today was spent watching for a flare up of the fire and moving sheep to safety. Ran in to put a bid on a few things and tonight see I have brought a couple of items. Now I see you where also bidding on the supramass indicator. Did you want to use it for a repeat-o-meter like me? If so we might have to make some arrangement as I have other indicators I could use.
I sent you an email to see if you knew anyone picking stuff up but if you are going could you pick up my lots. If thats Ok will email you the appropriate paperwork. Didn't get to the post office today to send you 3D taster but will do it tomorrow.
Thanks again
Mark

I "needed" another comparator stand, where else am I going to store my indictors? With a picture of the insides, pretty neat. 20 turns of the fine adjust moves the indicator 1mm, thats got to be close enough.
The "clarkson"chuck I bought taking a punt that there was a MT5-BT30 adaptor included. Surely that will come in handy one day........As I hope a second clarkson will be.

Stuart,
I like the Clarkson chucks. Have real one in ISO40 for the Rossi and a copy in iso30 as a left over from "the soggy noodle".

Nice haul Stu.
The stand looks Euro ?? I like the rack. Strangely, the whizzo Compac stand I acquired a couple of months back is rackless. Loosening the cotter type clamp without caution would lead to tears. I'll post some photos latter.
The chuck looks like an Autolock but the collets don't. Another Clarkson permutation?
