    G'Day Fellas,
Only my second ever gloat, I recently picked up a PAV 300mm vernier caliper for $15.00, it's a parallax free, prismatic job in very good lightly used condition but the wooden case could do with fresh coat of varnish, I hate to think what it cost new.
    Regards,
    Martin

    Nice one!

Better than my next tool gloat.

Thats not exactly how I remember it.

I wonder... might make a get shed vac........just vent it out the back of your shed, only have to clean it every 20 years or so. As a bonus the draw should catch all the good stuff you vac up by mistake lol

    Did you get some wax?

I have a bit of a gloat but it belongs somewhere else.

Well for $20 and a 5 minute drive away it hardly took convincing! Yep. I'm yet to decide what to do with it but yes it would make an awesome ducted shed vacuum. Another thought is to use it as a extraction system for when I weld. Or, I could use it for both! The guy said it's actually a forge blower and that I didn't buy it, I stole it!

Once again, thanks Stuart for the heads up. It is a good purchase for the price for sure!

No didn't buy any wax. I forgot about that TBH!

Looks like a high pressure fan. If so it might not be any good for vacuum....unless you spin it really fast...a VSD might be the go if the fan is balanced

I tossed one out a couple years back

Not sure. I'm yet to crank it up. The draw in the bottom is held in tight with a seal using two cam locks. The draw has remnant saw dust so I'm thinking they must have used it to collect sawdust from cutting wood.

So what does a guy with a jig grinder need?
A way to measure small holes of course.
All this to cover 1.44 to 10mm.
There maybe one piece* missing but I've been unable to work out what its for so as yet.

And for the visually impaired a 1/2 1/10th dial gauge with a 65mm face.

    Stuart

*some sets have something round(say 10ish mm)in the hole below left of the gauge. the hole is about 2mm dia so is to small for the thread of a different tip for the dial indicator.

To quote the nimble Money lending add (with the 2 Germans in the sauna under the bonnet) I don't understand any of that but it sounds expensive!

Referring to your new hole gauge Stuart. Specifically, how does it work?

Edit: the DI looks like it has some sort of collet or expanding jaw system, is that placed in the hole to new measured or used in conjunction with a suitably sized round connecting piece in the tray?

    Hi Simon,

Well you wouldn't want to go out needing to buy one "tomorrow". In fact I'm not sure you'd want to be looking for one "within a month"
    You pretty much have it.
Pick the pieces you need(the smaller ones are the same they are just stored up the other way.)
    Put it together.
Stand it up in the ring gauge. Push the dial indictor down until you have the ring gauge size on the dial guage, 0.3750"* in this case. Lock it up and you are good to go.

I left a gloat out... its a "cuteness" gloat lol
I purchased a 12" Starrett surface gauge from USA as it was the same price posted as they were going for over here, but it came with its little brother a 4" Lufkin. Good chance it will be a paper weight for awhile until it makes its way to the shed lol

    Stuart

*I just noticed there is 1/2 1/10th parallax error in the picture, but you get the idea

    Hi RC,

If you have 45 feedback, then yes is was. But there were only 7 bidders, so maybe not. But then again in my googling I didnt come across a kit just like this one so if it looks the same, there is a fair chance its it.

So that clears that up lol

I bid on that to. It went a fair bit above what I bid. Still a good buy though.
