I've been shopping again. Came across this and decided I NEEDED it. I don't recall having seen a vice like it. It will hold 90mm dia. No makes marks other than TH40 cast in the base and the an anchor(?) cast into the four jaws.

    Hi Stuart,

I need one too!... very nice, I looked up the anchor trademark, and got too many hits to be much use... I'll check the EAIA directory and see if anything turns up under vise makers.

Strange looking vice, but should come in handy for round things.

    Hi guys,
The bottom of base looks like its been machined on a shaper. The parts a number stamped but not in a way that makes sense to me lol.
Dave I think the best thing about this vice is as it has six pivots it should grip just about any shape you can think of(except some triangles and I think it would do a pretty good job of that if you add one fixed point.)

Of course I'll have to wait and see how often its needed lol

    Is it self-centering?

I’m pretty sure yours is made by Wyler, it looks identical to Marko’s. Yours is just missing the handle. The adjustment on yours is the same as his.

Have a look at a new Wyler one, its a dead ringer for yours.

The guy at Swiss Quality Discounts calls them Wyler-Tesa, I’m not sure why. I think Brown & Sharp had something to do with that, distributing them in the States.

P.S Were you just stirring that other place up about the wire & sag table?

    heh heh.. Of course...

Actually it never dawned on me until I asked about wire sag tables at the scraping class that when you use the piano wire you look down on it vertically so the sag is totally irrelevant..

    Hi .RC,

Now that's a tool worthy of gloating about!

I won't embarass you by asking how much, I'll think instead of the tens of thousands of dollars of machinery you will use it to setup...

Does it measure exactly the same when you reverse it? (just stirring)

    Regards
    Ray

Tesa and Browne Sharpe are the same company these days I think.

He got it a lot cheaper than if I’d known about it. I’ve had a search set up for one of those for years, and I missed it. They seldom come up.

Did you blokes read the Swiss Quality Link in post #82. Oliver at Swiss Quality. He must have inherited all the Tesa Stock in Europe. All new and cheap. I’ve bought a few things off him.

This little 150 mm long level, I know its only 0.04/m. But its a Good Wyler 0.04/m & Stable.

At $198 USD + $29 USD postage, its almost a better option than the Measuremax jobs.

    Regards Phil.

    Hi Phil,

Thanks for that link, there's some pretty slick metrology stuff going cheap, I'm **very** tempted by those Tesa Gage blocks.

    You'll send me broke..

    Regards
    Ray

PS.. I was going to suggest .RC make a wooden handle for his, then it would be the same as the Wyler, then I remembered .RC doesn't do wood...

You know you NEED them Ray.

    Bryan,
Nope, not turly self centering, it might try and center round things a little though.

    RC,
Very pretty, Now I want one of those as well!

Well I can do wood when forced to, but I am no master craftsman...

Made this box for the level tonight... Amazing what you can achieve with an end mill on a turret mill with a DRO... Certainly makes things easier...

I've lusted over those ceramic sets for some years, they are on my tattlotto list, just after the Porsch.

Keep an eye on him, he probably has them now, but not listed, you could ask. The little Etalon Swiss mag base. Kind of like the baby Noga, but just so much sexier in the Swiss way.

I bought one thinking it would be a toy, but I had to have it. For certain jobs, its just so sweet.

I should have shown you when you were here.

    Regards Phil.
