    Hey Rusty Can,

    I don't know about over there, there would be a Hare and Forbes, or big engineering supplies place in Wagga Wagga, fairly close to you, Melbourne would be closer than Sydney. If all else fails, there is a place over here called Ron Mack Machinery, they have all sorts of stuff, don't forget that google is your friend

    What brand is your machine?? just google that and add suppliers, might help

    there is a place in Dandenong (melb) called Punchtech. Never been there myself, just looked up the website.Punchtech

    If you are looking to bend sheetmetal and plate, dont forget to work out what die opening you might need for material thickness.
    This will sort of dictate what you can use in your press. You have 20 tonne at your disposal, should be right for most common materials, but best to check it. If you can, get a mutli v die block, will probably be expensive but allows much more flexibility.
    The bigger the die opening, the less tonnage required usually, but the minimum bend length from edge of job will increase and bend radius will also increase for thinner materials as the die opening increases. Also depends if you want to "air bend", "coin" or "punch", each requires varying amounts of tonnage.
    Dont have the info on hand right now, but you might find something by googling bending force chart or bending force formula.
    You need to know yeild strength of material also, this dictates tonnage required. Rule of thumb though is 8 x material thickness for die opening on mild steel and ali, 12 x for stainless.
    Or, you could just guess, really depends on what you are intending to do, if any of the above matters or not. The sort of stuff I am talking about is more related to pressbrakes, big, heavy expensive pressbrakes, and making sure you get a machine with enough tonnage to do the job, then tool it up to suit, based on available tonnage. If I guess right, and you are bending sheet and/or plate, the principle is the same.
    Raxo Machine Tools in Melbourne does the Technostamp range, good tooling, from Italy, but expensive stuff.

    One thing I forgot, in a workshop press with single cylinder in the middle you may experience some rotation of the tool as you lower to the job. You may need to adapt some type of guide that prevents this and keeps tool in line with the die. Also, may end up with some inconsistent bends where it may be tighter in the middle directly under where the ram pushes and more open in the ends, might happen, depends on width you are bending, material, etc. May also be open at one end and tight the other is die is not paralell to top tool.
    Keeping the top tool paralell in all axis will be the biggest issue you might face.
    The tooling in the links is for pressbrakes, they have a cylinder either side, with a big heavy beam in between that the tooling attaches to, so wont twist as it approaches the job. There is usually either a torsion bar or hydraulic valving that keeps the tool paralell in the horizontal plane. Then ethere is table crowning, pushing the centre of the die block up higher so that when under pressure it deflects enough to be paralell with the top tool, this probably wont be a problem over short length though.
