Interstate couriers for small items too heavy for AU post
I often want to purchase items off ebay but they are in far off small towns like Melbourne or Sydney and often the seller will not post even though the item is able to be handled by one person..
How hard is it to organise a courier to pick it up and deliver to me? Any times in the past I have had stuff delivered by courier it was organised by the seller...
Anyone recommend any couriers for these sorts of jobs..

Haven't used this crowd myself but friends say they're good and cheap:
Couriers, Courier Services, Courier Companies, Freight Companies, Freight Forwarders, Packing SuppliesCheers, Ern

Agree with Ern's comment.
I have only praise for the lady operating the MacKay store - packed and arranged transport for a lathe to Melbourne
- particularly careful to get it on a "non-stop" service so it was not reloaded on route.
- used expandable foam padding and heaps of bubble wrap to good effect - nothing broken
The seller was helpful in that he got it to the store.
Capability does depend on the operator of the store - I was told they don't all have forklifts and so I needed to go to the Altona depot of the carrier - NQX -- this also avoided an extra charge for a separate delivery company to bring it to my place and was quite an experience at 5am on a winters morning!
I'm wondering if when buying stuff the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence as I'm amazed how much good gear comes up in Queensland!cheers

The only thing I believe to be the problem with them is the cost. I am like you R.C when I want to buy something I find its hard to get some people to post.
I reacon we should create some sort of network within the forum members to help each other out.
I have such a network with members in the US on another forum that I am a senior member on, And it works both ways, I have quite often recieved items in to post to be re-posted to the US where Aussies who wont send internationally. Lots of US sellers won't post out of the US and I just have it sent to members over there who re-send to me here....
This would work here to if people were interested.

Hi Guys,
I was just thinking earlier when reading this thread, something like that would be a good idea.
RC contacted me a while back about a mag drill he wanted sent to him and I was happy to help him out. The deal fell through for him that time, but I told him if he needed anything else let me know.
Plushy also contacted me about the Douglas shaper and I was going to pick it up and store it at my place until he came up, but again the deal for him fell through.
If anyone needs a hand around Newcastle area let me know, I have live here all my life and wont be moving anywhere. Also I am on 3/4 acre so I have plenty of room to store something if needed.

a few years ago we used Bus Freight to carry (1 off ie not regular) very very heavy airconditioning compressors between perth to adelaide and syd to adelaide. Price was comparable with a freight co eg TNT with whom we had a contract to ship all co's good around australia
But if used infrequently always get a check price...eg
Greyhound is another option
as is www.courierquotes.com.au
google is your friend here as you can get online pricing

I think what RC is after is someone to go to the address and pick it up, then deliver it to him. I see a lot of sellers state buyer to arrange pickup and freight.
I know there are services out there that will do it, but it gets expensive.
I wanted a large shaper vice about a month ago and the seller got a quote through a bus company and it was $85 for 40kg from south Aus the Newcastle NSW, which I thought was dear and killed the deal.

Well I'm happy if anyone needs something from the East Gippsland area picked up and posted or put on freight....I have been in this house a long time, I own it, It took me years to own it, So be assured I am going no where....
Unless someone gives me way more than its worth......(hint hint....at least double current market value)
Would cost me that to move the shed..LOLWarning Disclaimer

I was the grateful recipient of assistance from this forum to get something shipped to me in Melbourne from Sydney (thanks again Steve).
The ebay seller didn't want to have to pack the item and mess around with the postage, which was fair enough but a bugger for me.
Thankfully, it was the blokes on this forum which helped me out.
If anyone ever needs something collected in the Melbourne area just let me know and I will do what I can to help out.
Cheers,
Greg.

Another one to try is Smartsend. I have found them to be cheaper than Packsend in the past. Smartsend | Interstate Couriers Services | Delivery Quote | Ebay courier Service

I have used Smartsend as well and they have been my preferred courier of late. Unfortunately, the last parcel I needed sent was outside their maximum dimensions. Other than than Smartsend is very reliable. If you do a search on eBay for cheaptoolsau you will see that they prefer to use Smartsend also. They seem to have a heap of Triton gear for sale and have pallet loads! Seemingly some made it into my workshop
