I use ( iespell ) you can down load it off the internet and has no crap come with it.
It's just a matter of clicking on tools up the top in the browser and picking it, then it will give you the right version of the words.
Couldn't do without it.

Yep, spell checkers are an excellent tool and I use one.
However, there are lots of things they don't (can't) pick up, eg the use of there and their, affect and effect, all spelled properly but when one is used rather than (then?) the other it looks silly.
So they are not the total answer.
One thing I am noticing more and more on forums and in emails I receive, is the lack of punctuation and the total absence of capitals, eg at the beginning of a sentence.
I'm sure texting has a lot to do with this.

Thats one thing I don't own Fred, and thats a mobile phone. The wife has one for calls and I keep getting Dodo ringing me for a plan, I just reply why do I need one if I am home all the time, would they like me to cancel my home phone? LOL
The kids are always on them, and I think this is the shortcuts we will see from now on. I think it's because they can reply quick, unlike their dad which takes at least 10 minutes to right a reply.

Fred,
My wife, a lecturer in computing studies, participates in an online teaching forum and has commented on the poor grammar and spelling used by a number of forum members. Conversely, a larger number of participants are articulate. She suspects that it is largely a generational thing. We had the importance of correct grammar and spelling hammered into us as kids. The emphasis has now changed somewhat. Sadly. The abbreviated language, spawned from mobile phone usage, will undoubtedly become the norm and we will be the odd ones out.
I sometimes think of the film Bladerunner, in which Deckard (Ford) says :
That gibberish he talked was Cityspeak, gutter talk, a mishmash of Japanese, Spanish, German, what have you. I didn’t really need a translator. I knew the lingo, every good cop did. But I wasn’t going to make it easier for him.The source languages will change, but we will get there.

It doesn't really matter how you spell or your grammar, it's good to have your contribution here, so don't think anyone is singling you out.
Sometimes it is just hard to understand until you reread some peoples posts, but that might be just me. LOL
Before we got a computer and I joined forums, I was terrible at spelling and writing. After using the spell checker for a while you get used to seeing the way words are written and know when they look wrong, but I always do a quick spell check on everything.

azzrock,
I'm pretty much the same as Dave, I'm sure most know when I forget to run my posts through spell check lol. I just copy and paste into and out of window live mail.
As far as spelling words you don't know "get a dictionary". Now that has to be one of the most useless piece of advice ever given! What I do is use the word in a sentence or part of a sentence and use that in a google search, google will most times recommend a different search.

I am only 44 but a grandfather as well (4), and I'm not on face book either.
I here of the kids talking about it, but I have never been on it and I hate the thought of sharing your personal info and movement to the world.
I often here the kids say about being tagged somewhere, it seems if someone sees you out somewhere they tag you on face book, what happened to coming over and saying hello?
The eldest daughter is the worst, always has the internet mobile phone in her hand and when she has a fight with her husband, their argument is on face book as the kids that live at home tell me they are arguing again, with out even talking to them.
I was watching a police show last night about predators with kids on face book, so it's not real safe either as they don't know who they are talking to.

My Face book experience is a follows.
Wanting to share photos and family trivia I joined in 2007?
My first friends were some of my sons friends - did I really want to know what they were up to and what they thought?
Then I added some trivial nonsense about myself.
This caused my son to ask me what substances I was partaking of when I posted this trivia.
I then replaced all my entries with "Content deleted due to embarrassment of son" which cause even more of a stir.
Then I tried to delete myself from Facebook - this is very difficult to do.
Recently I rejoined.
I have been swamped with people wanting to be my friend. Most are OK but some are people I most definitely did not wish to be friends with ie people I had not renewed employment contracts with and others I was glad to see leave. So far I have just ignored them but now I'm now thinking about deleting myself again.

I just asked my daughter, and she said you deactivate, and it then takes 30 days in case you have a change your mind.
