Came up heaps better than my toolmakers clamp RC. Mine is made out of 1/2" black bar, with two slot head screws, no taper. Very rough, my excuse is I didnt have a mill at the time. The truth is more likely I'm a little to lazy sometimes.

Just one pick, why did you make the thin part of the threading tool so long? Its got to be about 40mm doesnt it?

It is to reach into the part when doing small diameter threads...It is impossible to cut small threads with my insert tool as it fouls on the live centre once you get below 10mm or so...

My workshop bench space was starting to get a bit overcrowded over the years and a lot of machines could be better located, so I decided to build this portable grinding station so that I free up some space and could easily wheel it out of the shop away from my lathe, mill, drills etc and not cover everything with abrasive dust. I made up the belt sander from pictures of others I have seen on the net.I have made up the 200 mm diameter wheel bar and the adjustable table attachment bar as can be seen in the photos and plan on making another attachment bar that can handle an assortment of smaller wheels for grinding tubing. I left one side of so that the insides are visable. A few photos will make it clearer.

    KF,

Very well done, what a great idea. I particularly like the bench grinder tool rests. I presume they are made of aluminium with milled rebates. Puts my Chiawan grinder tool rests to shame.

Nice work Bob, it looks great.
lol You had me clicking through the pictures until I realised you have two different "heads?" for the belt sander. I'm going to make one of those one of these days lol

Is the adjustment to make the belt run true on the top roller?

Only problem I can see is that the diamond wheel will stop you from moving the table in once the wheel wears down a bit.

    Hi Bob,

Beautiful work, looks very professional, nicely thought out. I like the idea you can roll it all outside and keep the grinding dust away.

I can see a number of clever idea's there, the diamond cup wheel on the side of the bench grinder is one idea I'm going to have to pinch.

    Congratulations, nice job.

    Regards
    Ray

    That looks great!

Where did you get the pillow blocks and bearings?

Thanks to all for the compliments. Now to answer the questions raised.

Neksmerj. The tables are made out of 12.5mm Aluminium plate that I had left over with a common groove machined in them all.

Stustoys. The belt tracking is done on the top idler wheel, I machined a one degree taper either side of centre on that wheel. That is plenty of taper and adjusting is very easy, I find you do not need it much as the belts run pretty true. The adjuster screw is shown in photo 290.

Bob L. The bearings are just standard of the shelf ones that I picked up at my local bearing outlet

Very nice job and well thought out Bob.
Looking at the wheels, do you think bigger wheels would be better to get over the paver's?

    Keep up the great work.

    Dave J,
Dave as usualy you are very observant. The wheels are 100mm diameter and work OK, they were ones I had on hand from the dolly for my mill and I wanted to give them an additional use, I had to make up a set of brakes for two of them as you can see in the photos. If needed I can swap them back to the dolly with not too much effort. If I did not have these on hand I would of selected 150 mm diameter wheels that as you know would roll easier but need more room to manoeuver.

You have done a superb job, Bob.

It's the manifestation of a whole bunch of ideas that, unfortunately, a lot of us might only have ever thought about.

Show us more of your work.

    Anorak Bob,
Thanks for your compliments on my grinding station, I have been admiring your work as well. The way you recently bushed your pulley is exactly how I would have done it, I had a post ready to send but had internet problems and by the time I got that sorted you had done, nice machining as well.

    Bob,

I'm going to rip off your adjustable grinder rest design. Is there anything that you would change if you were to do it again?
