RC,
I dont like over loading my machines, but using an indexable end mill with 2 tips, cutting a slot, I can take a 1mm DOC in steel with no problems or strain, any more the machine complains a bit.
Ray,
I almost answered the same, but then realized that he was talking about CDCO not CTC. Looks like it caught both of us out.

The end mill is like the one in the link below.
I would recomend these end mills to all you guys, you get value for money and they cut great.

Have you tried a roughing cutter? I've been using these, 4 FLUTE HSS M2AL ROUGHING ENDMILL CUTTER - METRIC #G71 and found them to be really good quality. If you don't use a coolant pump these more expensive M2AL cutters are worth the extra cost, they're similar to cobolt HSS.
The difference that roughing cutters make on a small machinie is really amazing. It is a complete game changer.

I have the Clarkson Autolock system on my mill. The collets can be obtained in Metric and Imperial. The end mills, slot drills etc screw into the collet and cannot work their way out during use. Occasionally the chuck & collets come up on Ebay, more often from UK.

HM 52 Collet sets
Hi Richard,
I have been away and just noticed your picture of your ER40 collet chuck. My recently purchased from CTC Tooling ER40 chuck is a lot shorter, in fact it is slightly shorter than my ER32 chuck. I know they make these collet chucks in a variety of lengths and we do need short ones for the smaller style machine that most people seem to have. Attached is a photo of the both.
Regards Bob

Did you get the Collet Chuck OK??
I ordered $300 worth of goods from CTC a couple of weeks ago and it has just turned up today (end mills, and other milling cutters mostly).. I got a full ER32 collet set but did not want to order the chuck until I saw yours..
Can you post a picture of your chuck as all???
