    Default No New Posts

Every time I log into the forum and click on the "new post" button I get the the following message
    "
Sorry, there are no new threads to view.

You may search for threads updated during the previous 24 hours, here.

    "
But when I go into the Last 24 hour post there are lots of new ones???

    G'day Nev,
Can you give us some details to work on??
How long has the problem existed?
Have you done any "cookie clearing" lately??
    What browser are you using??

Can't think of any other questions??

    Thanks
Interesting thing is it doesn't happen every time
    I'm using IE6
And I deleted all the cookies thinking that this was the problem but it didn't fix it

You may not be leaving the forums long enough to refresh the page.

The forums have been set to refresh the database every 2 hours I think. If you are on at 8.00 AM and leave at 9.30 AM but return at 9.45AM the time at the top right hand corner will say that you last visited at 8.00 AM and does not record any new posts in that time because it thinks you are still here.
If however you don't return until 3.00PM the new posts should show up.

    Hope that makes sense.

More going on than that, I think. When I hit "New Posts" the software reports "Search results" and it's pretty much up to the minute. If I post a reply, then hit "New Posts," my post is near the top of the list, or below any that were posted in the interim. [** ]

Conversely, if I hit "Today's Posts" before logging in, the list often is headed with something like "The following posts have not been updated since your last visit" even though there really are new posts after I'd logged out. When I last logged out, the message "All cookies cleared" appeared, but I suspect it isn't completely true, and manually clearing the cache as Noel suggests might not be a bad idea.

This software (VBulletin) has enough versions/options/variables to challenge a PhD in computer science. I think there's a forum for VBulletin itself. Some of these weird questions might be addressed there.

    [** Like just now.]

Hi Nev - This is a fix from a long time ago, but try it and it might do the job. Nothing to lose.

Pending there has been new posts since you last log in

It is more than likely your session cookie isn't receiving its updated visit time.

    This can be that

a: you have your browser security too high
b: your firewall is too high and the WW server cant see it or update the session time in the cookie
c: your session cookie is being persistent and not updating

    Turn off your firewall
    Hit default in browser security
Turn on allow cookies to be set especially if it particular to your firewall to
    Allow: http://www.woodworkforums.com

Do a test to see if it updates?

and another if there is a domain shift to "new posts" which redirects to the sub domain I think it was woodworkforums.ubeaut.com ?

Last 24 hours post doesn't use the session cookie. It pulls the time variable from the forum MySql database
    c2=a2+b2;
When buildings made with lime are subjected to small movements thay are more likely to develop many fine cracks than the individual large cracks which occur in stiffer cement-bound buildings. Water penetration can dissolve the 'free' lime and transport it. As the water evaporates, this lime is deposited and begins to heal the cracks. This process is called autogenous healing.

Tick "Remember Me" when you log in. Connects sub-domains.
