    Default Site timing out?

Lately I've been getting a lot of instances when navigating around metalwork forums of 'page can not be found', and being told to try again later. I can however get other pages. Are there issues with the servers happening in the background?

Fine for me too, do you get it on other VBS based sites like Practical Machinist? Have you tried a few browsers?

    Michael,

Similar for me too, timeouts and unusually slow.

Through my TAS experience I have two computers working on this at the moment.
One is a desktop machine, running through wire to a modem and through iinet. That's slow
The other is a laptop, running wirelessly through a Telstra 4G wireless modem - that is, direct into the mobile network (but still through iinet) and there does not seem to be a problem.

However, if I run the laptop wirelessly to the same modem that the desktop machine is on, it still has problems. I have different AV software on both machines, so that should not be it. Same ISP whether fast or slow so that should not be it either. Same browser too. I don't have problems accessing other websites which makes me wonder whether it is something to do with the way the forum servers handle requests for data. I had a similar issue just before the servers were upgraded previously.

Does not seem to be nation wide, so can't work it out.

I'm going to bet it's something to do with iinets DNS server. If you are on windows on your desktop try changing your DNS server from automatic to 8.8.8.8. I'm going to bet the forums load normally. Happy to PM more detailed instructions.

PS this is just a diagnostic step, having your DNS pointed to Google will make any unmetered content you iso gives you metered again on that computer.

Turn off the iinet modem and leave it off for a few minutes then turn it back on and see what happens. I have been using iinet for a number of years now and have found that every now and again it slows down drastically and resetting it has everything running again like greased lightening.

If you'r using IE or Edge have a go at using Chrome.

    If that doesn't help....

    Try this:

    Login to this site http://www.metalworkforums.com

Note: Do not use https as there are a number of problems associated with it that are taking a long time to iron out.

Click here > MORE INFORMATION < to read more about this and what's happening

    Cheers - Neil

To answer a question posed by Ralph, I tried getting onto Practical machinist when I could not access this forum and it was fine (the issue seems intermittant)

I'll try resetting the modem as per Neil's suggestion and see whether that improves things.

I reset the modem, but still have had the same errors occurring.

I have been having the same problem for the past 10 days since upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 - could it be windows related Neil?

Oldgreybeard: I've been running Windows 10 on all my computers since just after it came out and never had a problem with this site or WWF apart from when there have been backups running in the background and that is usually only for a very short time a couple of times per day.

Michael: Did you try using the http site and not the https one as mentioned in last post.

Have escalated the problem up to the Guru.

The server in Galveston USA was upgrades and reset last night so that may have made a difference, but not necessarily.

Few hours off the air whilst it was done WWF is now running slow whilst MWF seems to br pretty quick. Both on same server so who knows what the hell's going on.
