    Default unsolicited newsletter

why the hell am I getting an unsolicited email newsletter from metalwork forums now? I just spent the last 10 mins trying to log in through the 'unsubscribe' link in the email which doesn't take me anywhere I can unsubscribe. How the hell do I unsubscribe?

I suspect it has nothing to do with the forum and you've been had by spam....

It does indeed look like something the forum software has generated. Maybe I look on the forum often enough for it not to invite me to come back LOL....
Have a look in your profile settings. I seem to remember there was something about notifications....

I'd delete it before too much longer, I don't think its the genuine thing. Read in today's paper that they tried to scam an AFP officer that was supposedly from his uncle, it also stated that the scammers used the official letterheads of various Fed and state Govt depts and cloned supposed demands of monies etc.

In Settings - My Account - General Settings - Right at the bottom you can select if you want to receive the news letter or not and if so, how often.

It is a genuine Newsletter updating just a few of the new posts/threads over the last week.

It is hopefully a way to bring some of those who haven't been involved for a while back to the forums and get them involved. I'm sure it will annoy some but if it keeps people informed then I'm hoping it will help to inject a bit more life into the the forums.

We often hear members saying the forums are not as big or as good as they were when they were on Woodwork Forums. This is actually a perceived view and not real but the newsletter has been generated to hopefully bring a little bit of new life into the forums from some old blood.

As rightly reported by DavidG you can adjust the frequency of the newsletter in Settings - My Account - General Settings at the very bottom of the page to:
Weekly, Bi-Monthly, Monthly Quarterly, Bi-Annually, Annually.

If it really gets up your nose, raises your ire and invades sanctity and privacy of your email inbox, click on the "Click here to unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the newsletter and you will be unsubscribed.

The Newsletter program was only setup on Sunday and went out without a chance to change to the wording at the top.

If you have clicked unsubscribe or changed the frequency then you shouldn't get the next one.

    Cheers - Neil

thanks Neil, I had already had my settings for newsletters unchecked, so something didn't work. And the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email just directs you to the forum home page with no message that it has actually done anything. And then if you haven't been here for ages (ever) I had to try and remember a password to login to see if that works. The only reason I'm a member of metalwork forums is I was apparently ported automatically across from WWF. Seems every week I'm trying to unsubscribe from something that's turned up in my inbox. mostly it's just a matter of one click confirmation of unsubscription...

Same here. I go on the woodworking forums sporadically and find them useful but I have no need of the metalworking forums. I have just spent the past 30 mins trying to work out how to delete this account but there doesn't seem to be any way to do it. I've managed to change the newsletter thing to 'annual' but I would really prefer not to receive it at all.

I can change your usergroup to "Retired" which is basically the same as deleting your account, but you can then be "Un-Retired" in the future if you wish.

Let me know what you want.

If retirement is the only way to do it, please retire me!
