Default Little Problem That I have Found

My computer skills are scant so it may be me doing something wrong. What I have found is that when I open this Forum and select "Activity Stream" what comes up is only 1,2, or sometimes a little more threads that allow me to read. Comparing this to the Woodwork Forum I do the same thing and it gives me more than a dozen (15 at the moment).
So to find out what's on offer I go to "New Posts" but its not quite the same
    Sorry to be a pest
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

    Rod,

I've noticed the same thing. I suspect that it occurs simply because there is a lot less activity on the Metalwork Forums, compared to the Woodwork Forums.

    Some alternatives to try:

    1. Option One: On the menus, select [Quick Links] and then [Today's Posts]. That will list all posts for the last 24 hours. If you do the same on the Woodwork Forums, you'll see a big difference in the number of posts per day.
    2. Option Two: On the menus, select [New Posts]. This will show all posts that are presently marked as unread by you. The first time you use this option it will list heaps and heaps of posts. Every time after you've read the New Posts, select from the menus [Forum Actions] then select [Mark Forums Read]. Next time you log in and select [New Posts], you will see all posts made since you last marked everything as read.

However, with Option Two, there one little issue that occasionally occurs, in that if you don't visit the forums for a few days or more, and the list of New Posts has got fairly long (seems to be three or more pages), then you may encounter an error when you try to go to the second and subsequent pages, and these errors when they occur, will prevent you from reading beyond page 1 of the New Posts. I've only had that error happen twice in the last few years, and I've been advised that it's a feature of the software that runs the forums web site.

    Hope that helps,

Thanks Ray I will follow your recipe and see how it goes. Its not a huge problem just a little inconvenient compared to the WWF.
Another feature of these Forums is that return posts come back really quickly as demonstrated by you replying to my problem. I light up the computer when I get up and go through the traffic on WWF and MWF then go and do what ever but come back periodically to see if there is something to peak my curiosity. Its like talking with a few mates.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

With my last post when I return to "Activity Stream" I have 7 posts to choose from. When I opened up this morning there was only 2.
    Just do it!

I now use the "New Posts" button. One thing I have noticed that has me perplexed. There is a list of "New Posts", then underneath this a list of "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts.".

Today, for example there is a thread listed that has 2 replies, for a total of 3 posts. I have read this thread. If I had not looked at this thread since before the last post was uploaded it would be in the "New Posts" section. How can the system know I have not read all the posts? Can it detect that I have not scrolled all the way down? It is only 2 screens max. I have just had another look at the thread and now it does not show up. Talk about no privacy anymore. I think I will cover my web cam, even tho it has never been turned on.

Update. I have just looked at the "Activity Stream" and realised that it updates on the fly. Now I know what the difference is. Saves having to keep reloading pages.
