Jewellers saw blade choice
I have a jewellers saw, which I propose to use to cut brass and steel parts to make tools. How do you go about deciding which tpi you need?
Cheers

My late father was a jeweler. I found using his jewelers saw blades, that the the larger tpi serve to cut the softer materials much better.
Like in the larger ones coarse pitch for soft , fine pitch for harder stuff.
The chart serves to illustrate the need for keeping a certain number of teeth in the thickness of the cut.
They are best used with a hook and peg set up on the bench with the blade cutting vertically.
Do be careful as the fine teeth cut flesh really deep if used incorrectly.

I need to buy a jewelers saw to try some inlay work for a guitar. I had no clue about using them so I looked it up on youtube. there's a bunch of videos that explain the types of blades, how to install the blade (which I took for granted that you just clamp it in, but I was wrong) and how to cut with the saw.

Hi All
The hook and peg fixture I alluded to is shown in Marks pics above.
He had a special fixture on his jewelers bench that that the peg slid into.
The teeth on the blade face down of course ,so that the job is pulled down onto the peg.The saw frame is then tensioned after fitting the blade to keep the blade taut.

Where do you get the piercing saw blades from? most Jewellery suppliers sell by the gross , way too many for me to buy a few different sizes .
Or will I break that many learning?
I've a box full of old coins from all over the globe ,I was going to try cut coins like Mark has done.
