    Default Vaccuum Pump Check Valve

Off today to the Mens Shed Router with a small vacuum table, 84x84 mm.

Plan is to hold blank 3 mm MDF 90x90 mm stock and reduce it down to 86x86 with R12 corners.

Problem is, the vacuum pumps I purchased off ebay (Chinese cheap) need a check valve to operate.

So today's trial will have to rely on the dust vacuum cleaner.

Anyone got a simple design or suggested source for a suitable check valve ?

If the trial is a success, I will report with photo, details and a glowing description.

    John.

The trial at the shed was a success.
The dust vacuum cleaner supplied the vacuum, and we didn't run it long enough to overheat.

The vacuum table is 9 mm polycarbonate screwed to 1.6 mm aluminium plate with 4 mm diameter ball nosed cutter grooves and a turned brass hose fitting glued in with epoxy.

Cutter was 2 mm diameter single flute at 12,000 RPM, cut 0.4 mm with feed 200 mm/min cutting clockwise (climbing).

No sign of blank moving on the table.

Photo shows the table and a typical end result after the engraving steps.

You get similar check valves in compressors. They are nothing more than a very flat smooth bit of steel sitting inside a shallow cavity over the top of a hole underneath.

A check valve on my compressor died. No air. Disassembly showed that the flat bit of metal had cracked in half. Dear me. I removed one blade from an old feeler gauge, polished one side on 2400 W&D, cut it to shape, and reassembled. It runs very nicely.

Truth be told, any solid bit of good shim might do.

    Cheers

Thanks Roger, my investigations has produced very similar for vacuum.
