Default What is going on in this photo? (specifically in the circled area)

    Hi

just trying to get some opinions on what is going on in the circled part of this photo. Apparently that was taken at ground-zero shortly after 911. Thanks.

    Hi Dohnjoe,
    Welcome to our Forum.

I realise you are new here and don't know our rules yet.

I don't wish to seem unwelcoming at all, but for an initial post by a new member, it seems quite odd. See it from my side. A new guy posting for the very first time. Straight into it, no introduction, but straight into the subject. Alarm bells go off in my head.

This Forum you have posted to is basically an Australian based DIY /Metal Work hobbyists forum. By all means, post about metalwork subjects there's a big range of sub-forums to choose from. There are lots here who are pleased and happy to help.

This particular post doesn't belong in the general forum, so I moved to this OFF TOPIC area. It still has the potential for discussion on conspiracies etc, which can degenerate into something we don't need or want here on this forum.

To anybody replying to this post If it starts to go in a way in not happy with I'll delete the post, if necessary. Be warned!

Dohn joe If there's anything I can better explain further please PM me.

    Grahame

Welcome to the forum, Dohnjoe from Ireland.
Was that intended to be a metallurgical question? If so, what knowledge do you have on metallurgy thus far? The colour in the photograph indicates something hot enough to be giving off metal sparks. Who knows what got that hot in the inferno of 911. I have seen photos of very large steel sections hot enough to give off that kind of light... especially in the dark of the huge concrete dust cloud which excluded much of the light in the hours after the buildings' collapse.
I suspect it's just an artifact of photography in the aftermath of a horible day.

What part of metalworking is your hobby then? Tell us a bit about it and you.
    Cheers, Joe

Looks like someone is using an oxy acetylene torch.

To provide some background. Currently the contents of this photo are being debated on a forum. Just wanted some individuals familiar with metal working to give their opinions. Some are arguing that there are two men in this photo and that the third (circled) is a reflection and that
it is molten steel in the photo. Others contend that (the circled) appears to be a man cutting steel with a torch or thermal lance

I thought I'd ask some who are more familiar with this type of thing

Would have been more polite to say that in the first post....
Good luck with your discussions on the conspiracy theory forum

Grahame, I think you can now delete the thread safely.

If it helps please know that using Oxy acetylene cutting torches, gouging torches or a thermal lance will not result in molten steel.

Oxidised metal which IS the waste product of any of the above does not sustain the yellow-white glow in your pic.
