My house guests have returned
Hi,
Back in February of this year I posted about our resident sunbirds.
For some weeks now I have watched the reconstruction of the remnants of the February nest. Mr & Mrs Sunbird have remade the nest in the same place as before.
It was and is lovely to watch them build and prepare. I hobbled out there today and spot 2 little heads.
I tried for some baby photos but these little guys keep ducking down when I go near. There are two hatchlings but one ducks down, not a great photo but hey it is with the phone camera.
.
I am really chuffed they chose us again to host them.

I was in the shed a moment ago and blow me down, theres a baby sunbird in there with mum doing practice flight.
Sorry I was too slow to get the camera.
How quickly they grow up and leave home
What a good start to the week!

Hi Grahame
We were running a couple of weeks behind your birds schedule. The birds built a new nest this season seeming to prefer a more sheltered spot.
This pic was from last weekend.

Yesterday was launch day. After some false starts (flying into a window and a near death experience with a Jack Russel Terrier) they have left home.

Good news John,
It is very uplifting to have the little birds return to renest again.
We humans must be doing something right for them.

Yet again,
It is in-bloody-credible. They little birds came back AGAIN to the same nest. That three times now, in a calendar year.
I never have seen or heard of that before in my life. Its definitely the same pair as the stroppy little male attacks me ( I am on the other side of the glass window) and the same male bird plays on the wifes wind chimesas he did last 2 times.
I asked on one of the bird forums and the opinion is it must be optimum conditions for them.
I saw only 1 chick this time.Once again the little bugger shot through without a goodbye.
