I love birds, adopted a sulphur crested some years back, George. Sadly, I had to give her away when I moved overseas. That's when I discovered George was actually Georgette. Georgette would follow me everywhere and would sit on the drill press when I was in the workshop. She started making some strange noises, then I discovered she was mimicking my machinery. She didn't spend much time in the cage, as soon as I was home I'd let her out she perch on my foot and go wherever I went. being so free she flew off a few times. Once I got a call from someone in the next street to say that Georgette was walking up and down his street mumbling obsenities. On another occasion she went missing for a couple of days, then on the way back from the local shop I walked past a bush and heard some familiar noises, looked in, and there was Georgette. I put my hand in and she couldn't get on quick enough, decided the world was a scary place.
I live on a small 450 square metre block now so no trees. A couple of tiny birds decided to make a nest under our pergola but I had to put a stop to that: they were using poop or a salivery mess to glue the nest together, dropping the stuff over our furniture. I've put bird netting under the roof now to stop them returning. I did make them a little box and mounted it on the fence with some of their droppings but there was no interest.
