Default gridmesh pieces in Perth? and thick sheet steel?

    G'Day,

does any one know where I can get offcuts (~1500x 1200) of gridmesh in Perth at a decent price? Ideally it would be salvage type seller as much for the gridmesh, but also for other steel as well.

I'm also on the hunt for some 12mm (1/2") sheet steel for a welding bench - again I'm hoping someone knows a salvage type place which might be selling this type of steel in smaller pieces

any pointers on sources in the Perth area?

    thanks,
    Des

Hi Des, it can be a challenge finding that sort of gear around Perth. What area are you in?

I know there's some gridmesh at a salvage yard near cockburn, as well as other steel (mostly lintels, UB, etc).

AAA salvage on the way to rockingham also often have stuff. Armadale steel sell offcuts but at $2/kg so pricey.

Most of the metal recyclers around me turn over steel bins daily, so you need to be lucky and willing to negotiate.

With regards to your welding bench I've got a full sheet of 5mm plate I'd part with. I used one to make my bench and it's plenty rigid over the 900mm between dexion rails. Alternatively the anvil guy on gumtree (Jake?) can get any thickness and dimension you want but it's near rrp.

    Pez,

    thanks for the reply...

I am in Pinjarra area, but will travel for the right price/supply. - Pinjarra had a good place in the industrial estate, but it went belly up a few years back, and the one in mandurah is too small to carry stock.

if you can provide the name of the place in cockburn, I can look at getting there on a day off.

I'll hold off on taking a full sheet of anything for the next couple of months - storage space is an issue for something that size - can I come back to you on that one if I can't find a smaller piece?

    thanks,
    Des

    Focus Demolition Salvage Yard.
Hammond rd Cockburn. Corner Spencer st.
Open 8-4 during the week, 8-1130 on Saturdays. Need to call before visiting.

No worries - I can do a part sheet if that's better, I'll use the rest for something.
