Default Qld : Milling machine / drill press

I have had enough of my old cheap crappy drill press that doesn't drill holes at 90 degree's. I could try fix it but the quill has horrible slack and the table flexes when pressing down to drill holes so it's not worth even trying.

Looking to either pick up a drill press or a milling machine with a quill.

I'm in Toowoomba, can travel to Brisbane but not heading down to Sydney / Melbourne, ect

Prefer 3MT so I can use all my existing tool holders from the lathe tail stock. If I can't find anything second hand I'll probably just pick up one from Hare & Forbes at their next 3 day sale which means I have until November.

Drill press I would be looking at something like this
    https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/D598#
This is $770 normal but would expect sale price around $729 based on the April 3 day sale

Mill I would be looking at something like this
    https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/M123
$2,255 normal price / on sale for $2,189 now which is same as April 3 day sale

That should hopefully give an indication on machine and price range,
open to the idea of a bigger milling machine but budget would not stretch to much further.

I have been trying to keep an eye on ebay / gumtree / graysonline / other auction sites but have not seen much pop up, let me know if you know of any. (or if there are any major issues with the above linked machines that means I should not be considering them)

    Regards
    Wayne

    Hi Wayne.

I would suggest you take a look at the Sieg Mills, I have just purchased a SIEG SX3L HiTorque Mill it cost $2530 + $145 to ship it from Melbourne to Brisbane with TNT (Collected from TNT depot just south of the Brisbane airport)

    SIEG SX3L HiTorque Mill
I was expecting to have to pay more for the shipping

I compared it with H&F/Machinery House mills in that price bracket, and I decided that the Sieg SX3L was the one I liked best, 1000 Watt Brushless motor, RPM meter, MT3 (I could use existing tooling) Digital readout on the quill, it weighs in at 180Kg + packing crate.

I have had a Sieg C6 Lathe / Mill since 2000 and am very happy with it, but I needed larger milling capacity.

I am very pleased with it and have added the SIEG X3 Auto Feeder with Clutch on the x travel of the table.

So looks like I may have found a drill press, will update when it hits my shed

Mill will still be on the cards but won't be as much of a priority, already have the Taig CNC mill so thinking might even try get a Bridgeport type mill. Been seeing some reasonable looking specimens for around the $2,500 mark, if only they weren't so bloody far away.....
