Default Deckel S1 tool and cutter slide

So ages ago I bought a very sorry looking Deckel S1 tool and cutter grinder.
Shipping cost me well more than the grinder itself but when has that ever stopped anyone?
Its missing the main slide so I have the option of buying one for 400+ euro or making one.
The roller slides are easily available from THK and others but Aliexpress is looking like a winner for now.
The slide body should be easy enough to make but I'm unsure as to how is best to make it.
At this stage I'm leaning towards machining the upper dovetail section and the lower slide housing as seperate parts and using dowels and bolts to fix together.
For the lower slide housing there is a large channel that will need to be machined from a section of 20-25x115mm plate the channel is approx 90mm wide by 12mm deep.
I'm not sure what happens to a piece of plate when you take so much out of it. Obviously it needs to be pretty straight for this to slide when finished so I'd appreciate your input.
Ive attached a pic of the grinder and a couple of pics of a quick mockup on solid works while trying to work out which slides to use.
I should mention the slide is 450mm long.
    Cheers

I'd probably look at using a piece of cast bar, I think it would be a bit more stable than a piece of plate.

I agree ! Rolled steel is going to move all over the place as you machine it. I once flycut the surface of a piece of 20 mm thick 200 X 150 mm rolled plate that originally was part of an 8' X 10' foot sheet. It curled up from corner to corner. It was a while before I understood why the sides were tapered.
