Found an old Hembrug lathe, how fixable is she?
Found an old Hembrug lathe I might be able to get for free, is it worth it or is there no reviving this ole piece of nice machinery?
I have a pretty reasonable knowledge on how to work on a lathe, fixing one is another matter...
The carriage goes pretty smooth still and so do all the other parts on it. It has minimal rust on the chuck and bed and seems like it would be easily cleaned up.
I have no idea if the engine is still running (I will get more information on that later) and I am not sure how many internal mechanical parts are missing, it seems to be missing a gearbox for the quick change box and a spindle speed selector.
I am not sure if it is a reasonable project to take on... is it even possible to find such specific parts for this specific machine?

Well you are in the right area for parts, although there is only one retailer for them (schinfa.nl) they bought out the hembrug inventory when they stopped making the DR1. Really without photos its impossible to give you an answer, I bought a very hard used hembrug and its nearly finished now. They are a lovely machine, absolutely top quality. But if you are missing the quick change gearbox entirely thats not an easy replacement.
What model is your machine (should be stamped on the top of the bed at the tailstock end between the ways)
Please, please provide photos and i can help you further, I would be happy to provide working drawings of any missing parts.
