Just to chime in and say how I have enjoyed reading your posts and that of Oldnewend.
Lovely place you have Mutawintji, would be very calming for ones soul to spend some time on your property.
I have heard that they call Gum trees widow makers as the tree or branches can fall at any time without warning.
I live in Sydney in a very treey suburb that has lots of Gums, there is a big gum just to the side of my place that has a open wound where the possums like to get. I had Council take a look as its on their property because I felt it may come down at any time but they said its ok.... time will tell. PS. the possums here seem like they are weight challenged and wear hobnailed boots, or at least sound like that as they run across the roof.
I look forward to the further posts from both yourself and Oldnewend.
