    Finish the top coat on the main body of the mill. I had a problem when rolling out the final coat, the foam roller was leaving small air bubbles on some of the areas on the mill. so i gave it a light sanding with 800 grit sandpaper and use some fine automotive cut and polish.

    Done the first coat of primer on the knee. Went out and got one of those airless spray guns, WOW it did the job really well and took me 5 minutes to paint. I will get most of the parts degrease and prep for painting.

    I finally got the knee painted and the other parts and fitted back on the main body of the mill, i replace the two thrust bearings with new ones and found the shaft is bent will machine a new one once the mill is up and running. I'll get some new Flush Grease Zerk Nipple Fittings as i can not push oil through some of them. Next is cleaning and panting the drive motor and saddle and gearbox.

    Work on the mill is progressing nicely no major problems at this stage. Have got another batch of parts painted in primer undercoat. Took the front cover off the gearbox and gave it a good clean inside, all the gears are in good shape and the shifting mechanism is in good shape as well, no cracks in the plastic parts.

    OK gearbox and saddle are back on the mill, replace the thrust bearings the bearings in the gearbox are in good shape. Have some more parts that will need repairing or replace that will be in the next lot of photos.

    Stated cleaning the ram and rack and pinion gear, there some teeth missing on the rack and the pinion gear is in bad shape. Does anyone know were there is any general engineering services here in Melbourne that could help me out with getting this part fix

    Today it's been cold and wet no good for painting parts, so started work on the head. I wont do a complete tear down no need for it the bearings feel and sound in good shape, i may replace the taper bearings. I will need to make up a new part which i think it's made out of copper. Now as you can see the photo of the small gearbox it has some old grease. I'm a bit confused do i reapply grease the manual does not say anything about grease, just add oil on top of the spindle and there is a oil port on the side of the quill housing.

    I remove a few more parts off the head today and gave it a good clean. I have come to a conclusion that the down feed gear box is oil lubricated, this head has been work on before.

    I fix the lever for the drive feed gearbox, as you can see the original DETENT SPRING was in pieces so fitted a SPEED GEAR DETENT BALL AND SPRING set, had to shorten the spring but now the lever stays in the stop position.

    I had a couple of parts that need to be fix by a local engineering workshop, the feed drive electric motor armature was in bad shape and the spindle drive motor base plate had a crack in it so they are getting repaired.

    Almost finish painting the mill head, got new tapped bearings and have found some issues to address with the head, will go through with this when putting it back together

    The ram is painted, but need to replace the spur gear which is on order will machine the old gear off and weld the new gear on. Been looking around to get a couple of new metal nameplates made up, so i got a price of $700 for the two
