    Default Antique Drill Chuck

I got this lovely chuck for my post drill today.

    J.H.Westcotts Little Giant Improved
    Patented Mar.17th 1874 & Apr.14th 1885
By Westcott Chuck Co. Oneida USA

I pulled it apart and cleaned it, put some fresh oil on it. Really interesting is all the parts are stamped with branding and other details.

Need to make up a chuck key for it. The ends of the T handle are meant to be a bladed screw driver and a smaller square key.

Thanks for that Dale, a very interesting concept, almost like a 4 jaw chuck, but with 2 screws!!!!!

    Not quite Kryn,

It more like two self centring jaws, each of the jaws are Vee blocks. The Vee blocks are cut in a way that the interlock to close.

The two additional screws are just screws, when you use a large dia. Shank drill you screw these in last to add extra support. The screws or independent jaws are stepped down so the jaw end is actually quite small and wouldn't have a lot of holding power.

Slightly different version from the net. I think this is the small size of the original. Mine is the IMPROVED.
