Default Is there a PDA support group?

Post Drills Anonymous.......I think I'm an addict.

Some guys are doing an article on post drills for the HTPAA. They asked if they could come look at mine and get some photos.

Mine are tucked away all over the shed most are on the to do list, I just didn't realise how many are as found. Some just need a wash as the original paint is good, a few are seized with rust and one is beyond saving.

Thee are two more in the shed that aren't coming down

    This one is a goner

I guess the worst part is I don't stop at post drills....I have at least 7 other hand crank drills of the type that clamp to the bench most are Goodall & Pratt, 6 bench top flat belt driven drills, the big Denbigh.

I think I need help.......that is polishing them all up for display so I can justify getting more lol.

All my drills have been acquired cheaply from $20-80. I'm amazed at how many get listed on eBay in the $250-700 none of which I have seen sell. Restoring one increases your investment in them but not the market value.

I have a Dawn 2 speed model which gets used most weeks, I find it very useful when drilling in stainless as it's slow and provides steady pressure and also when using up to 1" holesaws in plate steel.
It's unrestored but in good order.

Yes, that's the one. I bought it for $30 at a sale about 10 years ago, gave it a wash down with kero and greased it up and it's been in use since. I use it for up to 3/4" holes in mild steel with a 1/4" pilot and 1/2" in stainless and it seems to cope well but I'm not sure that I'd push it much further.

I must get some up-to-date photographs to post.

Gavin it's great to hear one is still in regular use!

If possible would you be able to take off your feed advance arm and photograph it on some graph paper for me. It should just be a matter of slideing the crank handle out of the way then just remove the split pin and it should come right off.

This part is missing on mine and I need to make one up.

    Sounds like a forging job!
A friend bought (at recent TTTG members swap) a Buffalo that is missing similar piece. One day he'll tell us what model to get similar sketch.

These are the photos requested (I hope). The graph grid is 5mm, sorry for the metric scale but given that the graph paper was metric I figured that the rest of the measurements should follow suit.
Hopefully they help, if you need any more measurements just ask. Sorry about the grease but it's a working machine.

It must be a year and a half since I last bought a post drill - but that's only because the supply of cheap Silver drills has dried up over here. I have three searches on Trademe that I check every day for post drills (and other toys).

And Yes, Wadkins have distracted my restorations efforts

    Cheers, Vann.

I wanted to go to that. But it is a 9.5hr drive and I have a preggy missus that was due 2 days ago so they are already messing with my shed stuff

    I want these three...

    Post Drills.jpg

    - the green one - a Silver Advance No.13 (or maybe No.12);
    - the red one looks like a Silver Advance No.14 (or maybe No.13); and
    - the brown (rusty/dirty) one in between - with the loose and fast pulleys - A Silver No.24 (or maybe No.23).

Unfortunately I don't want the cost of shipping them across the Tasman .

    Cheers, Vann.
