    Default Hi from Finland

    Hi

    My name is Tuomas.

Originally i started my career in metalworking as an machinist.
But soon i found that plate manufacturing and welding suits better for me.

Now 18 years later i have found machining again, and bought my own small lathe and mill.

I like to make and design my own tools, my homeshop is very small, so i do mostly small things at home.

At my day job i make parts for the Valmet paper machines and Abb propulsion systems.

I have a small youtube channel, if interested:
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjD...l771Kn8lUbmuSQ

    This is my latest video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lThiNSKmO6Y

Its about this kind of circle cutting tool:

    Shortly:

I am rookie machinist and a qualified welder with 20 years of experience in metal working.

    Hi Toumas,
Welcome to our Metal Work Forum. There can't be many of us here, who are welder, fabricators who would have not seen your U Tube videos.

You do seem to know your way around an angle grinder fitted with a thin section cutting disc.

I look forward to you joining our group of posters for comment of all things in sheet metal/light plate fabrication.

For subjects other than welding etc you can go to the FORUM box in the top LH corner of the screen and click on Forum Home and scroll down from there.

    A very big welcome.

    Thank you.

I need to use cut off wheels a lot in my day job.

Usually plates, specially thick stainless ones, are allways little thicker than nominal size.
Designers doesn't remember that, so like allways in metal working parts needs to be adjusted to fit.

I just have found cutting slice out with grinder to be fastest way in many cases.

I think i found many interesting threads from here.
Great forum i must say. Lucky that i found it.

Who would known, that googling "Metal work forum", would actually lead you to Metal work forum.

I have searched with all "diy... this and that" words earlier, and found many great things what you can do with the hot glue. Lol

Welcom to a TOP FORUM Tuomas.
I like your video of the circle cutting using an angle grinder.
Nice to see a newbie introduce themselves with a video clip.
Did you make that tool yourself, or is it a design from elsewhere, as I've never seen anything like it before.

    Hi.

    And thank you.

I made it by myself .
    Here is instructable about it.

    https://www.instructables.com/id/-Ul...utting-Guide-/

Its not very good tought, i just like to make things, and forget to take pictures.

I think its about 80 percent of my builds, i don't "bother" to make a video about it.. it happens that making is too fun and handling a camera is more like distraction.

I make videos just for fun. Sometimes it starts to feel like work, so i make something without a camera.

    Hi

I tried to answer to you earlier, but it seems that i pressed something else than quote?

If i have "reported" something or something like that, i am very sorry.

U- tube channel is just for fun. Tought that it could be somewhat easy way to tell something that i do.
Things i make on youtube are a lot of different stuff that i do at my workplace, or what i do just for myself.

I like forging, but haven't made videos from it. That's something that i do just for myself.

Tought that this could be good place to see and discuss about professional issues and general metal working..

    Hi

I answered to you. And i didn't got the wrong impression.

That U-tube channel is just for fun.
It actually started accidentally, years ago i wrote blog posts to Dremel's blog.
It started to get boring at some point, so i decided to try could it be easier to show things with video, instead of trying to explain things with words.

Here you don't earn very much with U-tube. Million views is usually about 200-300$, sometimes more, but not much.
So i don't bother to advertise my channel. 98 percent of my views comes from U- tube's own features rest of them are mostly from facebook shares.
Because of that i make only things that i use by myself, it would be waste of money to make something "cool" just to get views, if you don't have any use for the product afterwards.

If i share a video, i share it because i think that one could be interested about it.

    Lol.

You might notice that what i wrote to you about Asperger?
I rather say things just like they are.

This seems to be very interesting forum.
Spamming video links is annoying, when if one that posts a link, doesn't never answer to any comments.
I understand that perfectly, and i also understand that if a person posts a youtube link on his first post, it doesn't always look good.

So, then i post another link:
    https://www.instagram.com/soikkelituomas/?hl=fi

Its to my instagram profile, there is some of those things that i do without making a video about it.

Thank you very much. I hope you watched the longer version, i think that's much better.. ?

I made that axe for a friend that had just recovered from a cancer, second time.

Here is the finished piece with stand.

    IMG_4847_Fotor.jpg IMG_4842.jpg

So, it was made to be just a decoration, that's why handle is little short. It doesn't take so much space when placed on the table / inside bookshelf.
Shaped the xle so that it can be seen that its made from a rr-track.

Stand is made from two U-channels, bend the cap between them by heating outer edges and hammering splines to the cap to get it wider.
It suppose to give an impression from H-beam split with axe.

I named it " Perkeles! ", its a Finnish word that means something like " F.ck, i don't give up"
