Default New member intro from Midland, Perth WA

    Hi all,

I thought I would join the forum after just picking up my first lathe, a Hercus 9A with serial number 6625. I believe its around 1958 (so its a couple of years senior to me!). $700 from Gumtree and in quite reasonable condition.
I served my apprenticeship as a turner at a lathe manufacturers in the UK during the seventies, so thankfully I have a little experience to help me get started up again after a 20year break from turning.

My first project will be renovating the Hercus over the coming months so I'm looking forward to reading past and future simialr threads from the forum.

    All the best.

    Regards Vince, Midland, Perth, WA

    Welcome Vince

Never had the opportunity to check out a DSG lathe in person but the internets tell me they were awesome lathe's with every feature possible. Hopefully the Hercus won't be missing to many features you were spoilt with back in the day

    Hi MasterSpoon,
The DS&G lathes were a pleasure to work on and as you indicated they had some great features. However I am sure I am going to be well satisfied with my Hercus for my hobby projects.
