Thumbs up Hi from Brissie, Metal and Wood working

    Hey guys,

I'm Tom from Brisbane, I've recently chucked in the towel working behind a desk for the past 15yrs in a corporate environment and I'm going to pursue a carpentry trade as a mature age apprentice - that's the plan come July.
From the metal side - I've bought myself some metal working tools - welder, bandsaw, drill press, cut off saw etc to setup a metal working workshop from home where I intend to make designs I've drafted, it's early days and I'm enjoying every bit of it and learning a lot and hope to learn a lot more on here from the community.

    Cheers,
    Tom.

Welcome to a top Forum, Tom. Where in Queensland are you based, if you could change your location to a town or suburb, PLEASE. It makes it easier if asking for hand or having a problem with something that someone close could come and look or help?
Should you have any questions please ask away, if you have any pics to support the question, even better. Anything you make, do a posting on it and we LOVE pics, or WIP (Work In Progress) reports. PLEASE.

    G Day tom,
Welcome from me too. I am sure you have a ton of questions. You will enjoy being away from the rat race

I was a Tafe teacher in another life and enjoyed teaching the adult learners- post trade and and adult apprentices as they were a great stabilsing influence in a class. I like the fact the often a mature age bloke would pull distracting smart rrrss apprentice aside and explain to him the negatives of interrupting the class when he the mature guy ,was there to learn.Same blokes always passed with credits.

If you would please, when you have a question please include as much detail of your inquiry. When folks answer your questions it helps to know to know the capacity or spec of your machine/tool,or the material type and thickness.

Example ,if its a welding question the machine name ,model amperage range of your welder will really help the person answering as a few might have the same machine. Same deal for material say for a piece of steel -"i want to weld 50 x 50 x 2mm
wall thickness box. With the specifics of what you are trying to achieve its much easier for other members to pin point the solution for you.

Again a big welcome and enjoy yourself

Hey NedsHead, I have to wait to get a job first before I can even apply for TAFE, a bit annoying but it is what it is. Hope they get the issue sorted mate.
