Silver Soldering,
I have recently become addicted to making model sailing yachts, that is ones that are R/C controlled and do sail. I have found that there are often tiny brass parts that I need to fabricate from sheet rod or tube and solder . I have tried various soldering irons and a small butane fired torch but the results have been rather hit and miss. I recently purchased a plumbers Propane torch which certainly produces more heat but is rather big and clumsy for my work, I suspect that I need a jewellery makers torch that is smaller lighter and more controllable.
Can any one advise me on a suitable type and what gas and or oxygen is required and the name of a supplier/s. I have seen some that are getting close to $ 300.00 which is a bit more than I wish to spend. I have also recently read about a soldering pick which seems to be a helpful tool, so far every time I have tried to solder parts together I am frustrated by not having enough hands to direct flame, hold part and apply solder. I am also confused about hard and soft solders. Any advise would be really welcome.

G'day Tony - welcome to the forum. Suggest you have a look at this thread
//metalworkforums.com/f310/t199...copper-jewelry
in the jewellery section as they talk a little about soldering there and the gear to use

Hi Tony and Welcome to a top Forum. For your Silver Soldering torch I suggest a small torch that runs on butane and is refillable from a larger can. I have one that I purchased from Jaycar that I use for repairing bandsaw blades.
Cat no. TS1660 and the cost, an expensive $39.95
