    Default Surface plates on ebay

Just thought I'd post this in case anyone wanted a project!
This guy sells a lot of metal work equipment, a while back he had about 4 colchester bantam lathes for sale. Their bed ways had all been given a similar treatment to the surface plates.
My guess would be a stiff wire cup in an angle grinder.

Maybe it's just a variation of a scraped finish?

The Bantams were for sale Maybe about 2 years ago
The point l was trying to make, was sometimes when people clean things up for sale, more damage is done and the value of the item actually decreases in value as a result

I am actually looking for a surface plate and discounted that for exactly that reason. It also makes me doubt how much trust you can place in any machinery sold by that seller.
