Boley-Leinen Lathe
My local secondhand shop has struck again with a bench mount Boley-Leinen lathe (an early one) for sale for $1750. I just looked at it in passing. It looked to have around 500mm between centres and a 250mm swing. From the lathes.co.uk page here Leinen L4Z, LZ43 & ZK3 - Earlier Types
I would guess (WAG) it is pre 1950s. As you do I gave the handles a turn and while there is wear in the screws it has a nice solid feel to it. Looking at it there will be some repairs needed as well as a motor (nb - flat belt drive)
If there is definite interest, PM me and I'll disclose the location. If there is interest but not at the definite level I could go back with a camera and get some more detail.

As they say no photos so it didn't happen. From the link they are. Lovely looking lathe, especially if it has one of the original stands.

Gee - the things I do for you guys. It's not as if I like looking at quality old machines...
So here it is. The stand is RHS and could do with being beefed up I suspect but it is what it is. Tailstock does not have a micrometer dial but is direct read. Graduated in inches

Bed is a strange one - nearly continuous but not quite. There is a screw cover missing on the compound. Tool post looks like 1/2".

Drive is two stage with the final stage being flat belt. I did not realise at the time but there is a motor with it. Looks like it was bolted to the wall of a shed or something, hence being separate.

Box of miscellaneous bits included (there is a faceplate as well as the chuck that is fitted)

That's a quirky little lathe ! The info on the lathes UK site is a little confusing , that example in the SH shop doesn't appear to have the full thread cutting gearbox . It would need change gears ? The bed, looks to me as if it had rust on it and somebody has attempted to clean it up . A pity it is way too much $$$ You wonder how something like that managed to get here . I recall seeing two WW2 German 2 stroke generating sets at a surplus yard out at Coburg years ago, they were carried like a stretcher e.g. a man at each end .

Yes, I think it would. There are no plates on it to show what gears go where though, so there might have to be a bit of trial and error involved with working out what gear goes where.
There is probably a little surface rust here and there but most of it looks like discoloured oil/ dirt. To me it looks like one of those bits of machinery that have sat in a farm shed for years, occasionally being used but not appreciated necessarily as capable of precision work. I think it would probably clean up to a usable bit of kit.
It's imperial, so I suspect that it was a normal import for the time.
