I've just had a bad experience with this seller:

One of his items was this old lathe:

LATHE BIG AND HEAVY FAIR CONDITIONS NOT SURE WORKING OR NOT $1,300.00

I'm looking for an old cheap lathe, with a large swing and face plates, for a specific machining task. Seemed like this one would be suitable, if his price could be a lot lower. I arranged to go see it. He's quite odd on the phone, but I did get to see it. It would do what I want, though the removable section of the bed is missing, which is quite a serious flaw. Also it used to be 3-phase (good), but has been converted to single phase and they threw out the original motor. It's quite rusty, and all the accessories are 'blended' in with the awful chaotic mess in that shed.
Anyway, we agreed on a price of $500, which I didn't have on me. Perhaps it's worth more, but I simply couldn't afford more and was grateful for the deal. Gave him a deposit of $200, got a signed receipt and agreement of sale.

Then in next few days tried to arrange to meet again, give him the rest of the money, gather the accessories and get them moved, measure up the machine's dimensions so I could make a sled. At my end, moving it into the shed would have to be on a sled and rollers, due to no truck access for the last 30m.

But he got evasive. Cancelled one appointment. Hard to contact, and is very irrational when I could speak with him. Then yesterday called me to come to the site in the morning, I thought to finally do the payment, accessories sorting, etc. When I arrived there (looking forward to finally get things moving) he handed back my deposit, got in his car and drove off. Had nothing sensible to say. Now the listing shows sold.

I can only assume he was offered more than our agreed price, and decided to renege on the sale to me.

So in general he's dishonest, willing to break agreements, makes up excuses for delays, acts paranoid and irrational, and has done *nothing* to clean up or tidy the machines he's selling. They belonged to a relative, deceased. His listing prices are well into delusional range too. I think if you try to buy from this Nick guy, you will have a bad time. I'm still upset about it.

Oh and if you do deal with him, get his real address. Because it isn't the house where the gear is, and I never got it.
