I was down there yesterday. The chucks are fairly well picked over - mostly larger ones (200mm and up) left.
Sounded like the big radial arm drills were going to the scrappie.

There's still a heap of lathe toolholders and various machine tools. Much more than is listed on Gumtree and all will be going one way or another. Either someone buys them or they will be scrapped.

    Default Waldown NH Surprise!

A Waldown NH is up for auction at Evans and Clarke. I went down and took the covers of and this is what I found. A 4 pole instead of a 2 pole motor and V belts instead of flat belts. It certainly wont give anywhere near the 12000rpm of the original.

I believe that there were actually two versions of the high speed Waldown made - one that went to 30k rpm and one that went to 12k.

Michael is right about the two versions. But they both had 2-pole motors and managed 12000 & 18000rpm - both had flat belt drives.
So this is either a 'special' - which Waldown did - or an owner modification.
My NH is a factory special, with fixed head and rise and fall table (probably bench drill stock).

I did neglect to mention the speeds plate had the same 4 speeds listed as mine 3000, 6000, 9000, 12000 so should have had the same pulley ratios. The welding I neglected to photograph around the hub of spindle pulley makes it almost certainly an owner modification. Why however I can only guess. I hope whoever wins isn't expecting an unmodified NH.

    Cheers, Eric.

The reason for the different motor, could possibly be that the original motor died and the replacement was what was at hand?

Probably but why change the pulleys? If you kept those the top speed would be a respectable 6000rpm. Anyway someone paid $290 plus buyers premium etc. I hope they knew what they were buying.
