Default Skinning knife with limited tools

    Hi

    I made a bet with a friend.

Could i forge a skinning knife from a file without
    Real anvil with a horn?

File was 5mm thick and 38mm wide.
Requirements for the blade was to make it
Atleast 8mm thick from the back and 55mm wide blade.

Geometry had to make by forging, grinding was
Allowed to be used only for finishing and sharpening.

Slower version from the Video: https://youtu.be/eIZ0CVjBPCU

    Used tools.
    Rr-track as an anvil.
    Two hammers
    Angle grinder
    Locking pliers & thongs
    Wet sanding paper

Hadn't tried anything like that before, so it was a little tricky to do.

    Hi Toumas,
    Nice knife, mate!

I looks like you put many hours in to the polishing ,alone.

What grit wet and dry did you finish with? #1200?

    Thank you very much buddy!

It took about 3-5 hours. So long that battery of my camera run out. I tend to forget that kind of things while making something.

And yes i used 400-600-1200 wet sanding papers for finishing. Taped paper with masking tape to square tube, and tried to keep it on the same angle whole time.

When edited all heating parts out from the video, actual forging took only 34 minutes. Whole video about forging was about 2 1/2 hours long.

I used small gas forge for heating, but didn't expect that heating takes so much time.
Time doesn't feel so long when forging.

    Thank you. I won it.
Now its my time to challenge him.

That's actually quite fun, to make things that you haven't thought at all. One just gives you the subject and says how its must be done.

    .
Yep. I don't where my friend found it, but i think its been under the crane..?
Traditional track would possibly made working easier, that one was so shallow that it made using the edge little more trickier.
But, its wider that traditional track, which made forging the sides easier.
