Default FREE: Compressor pumps and motors

Both these compressors were working fine. But having a son who is a worksafe inspector hasn't done me any favours when it comes to turning a blind eye to safety. When I pulled the bungs out of the ends of the air receivers I didn't like what I saw. They are both quite rusty inside.

So for today only these are available to anybody who wants to use them for parts. The motors, pumps and pressure switches work perfectly well on both. Any person who can get them today can have them. They have to be gone otherwise they are going to the dump by order of SWMBO. The Clisby was actually made just down the road from my place. Every single part including the compressor. I know this because I had a friend who was in charge of production at the time and he gave me a sweet deal of around $800 in 1988. The Peerless is a 2012 model.

I would not mind one but have not got the room.
I do have an ultrasonic thickness meter though so you could check the thickness.
If you then put an autodrain on the receiver, you would have a good compressor...

Seems like a waste to take them to the dump if no one from here claims them. You thought about just putting them on eBay starting at $0 no reserve. You would make some $$$ out of it surely and someone will benefit from the parts.

    Michael,

I have a compressor with a 120L tank so these are surplus.

I already checked the both the tank thickness' and they have already both lost than the 0.75mm corrosion reserve it was built with.

If you were in Melbourne I'd be on your doorstep in a flash.
If they are a safety issue concern I'd be putting a decent size holesaw through the tank before you take them to the tip. Otherwise I'd almost bet they will be back in use next week, or on eBay/Gumtree....

I used the angle grinder to make reuse very very difficult.

It's too late now but a hydrostatic pressure test would have shown if they were safe or not. I hope that you can find someone who can use the compressors, or maybe you can just buy a new pressure vessel. Being in Tasmania really sucks when such bargains come up

I wonder if that's enough to contain an exploding compressor? Better than nothing I suppose.

Where would I get such a test performed?

Pressure test quote was $440 the same give or take as buying another tank.

    Any gas cylinder tester.
I get my 6kg Soda water CO2 cyinder filled by the local guy who fills CO2 fire extingushers tanks, CO2 Welding gas bottles and Soda Syphon cylinders. When I went there before Xmas he was just taking in a some 9kg LPG cylinders and a 100L compressor tank for testing.

    Wow.
I don't know what my local bloke would charge I must ask him next time I head over there.
His 6kg CO2 bottles of food grade CO2 are $35.
He's a sole worker and a bit of a quirky character.
No office - just a factory unit with a roller door and a swimming pool fence with gate in front of the roller door
No email, no website, no company phone - just a personal mobile which he doesn't always answer.
He's only available for interacting with a few hours a day.
Cash sales only for private customers, accounts only for businesses.
I know he does a lot of work for fire brigades so he should be legit.
