Thread: Douglas 10" shaper

A friend in Mackay area has a 10" Douglas shaper he wishes to sell. The shaper is the one discussed in General Metalwork in the last few days.The machine has a 240 volt motor and is in running condition.It has 3 cutting tools and holders and is complete with handles.There is no vice offered with it.
Asking price is $600

The history of the machine is that it was part of the Sugar Research Institute here in Mackay.The shaper was then acquired privately by a sugar mill engineer who sold it to my friend after owning it for a few years. There is no wear or damage anywhere at all and the bed block ( big square thing with tee slots) is unmarked bar a scribe line 90 degrees across the back
The paint is a bit grimy but a good wash down in kero will make it sparkle.

Basically as you can see by the photos the unit is in excellent condition.

Interesting, probably non-original handwheel in the first photo - to manually move the ram without having to touch the pulleys or belts.
Nice little visitor in the second photo.
It's a clutchless model, with a V-flat primary belt system.
The support bracket at the front was later changed to another style, with one vertical rod.
