Hercus Collet rack
MMMM This would finish off my hercus nicely, but knowing how crazy things get on ebay I think I will pass.

Good decision, wouldnt be surprised to see it go for $350 +,the biggest problem being people are paying far to much for what things are worth (great for the sellers) but not for the buyers.
There are plans out there to be able to make your own Collet tube nose protector and associated parts for not a great deal of money but a reasonable amount of effort, you would still have to purchase the collets in most cases though.
When you look at the prices being paid for some of the Hercus parts, gets me to thinking to part mine out.
With prices being paid in the past few months would be able to get between $2500 to $3000 easily.

Pipeclay,
Working towards a collet system, I managed to acquire the draw tube with attached hand wheel, and one collet. You mentioned there are plans out there for the nose components, I presume these are called the chuck and nose protector. Not sure of the correct terminology.
Do you have a link to drawings for these parts?

Ken Ive looked but cant find the drawings for the morse 3 adaptor to 3 c collet the dimensions for the collet are on the net, you just need to turn up the outer morse and have internals to suit the 3c,the thread protector details should be on practical machinist,
I only use an ER32 M/T 3 collet chuck and draw bar but then again I only use it for holding End Mills and Slot Drills not for holding long lengths of stock.

What is so special about the hercus collet set ups. I have used a MT3 collet holder from my mill the same as pipeclay says. Does the hercus part hold things better?. I just like the idea of the rack to put on my hercus with the collets all mounted on it.

With the 3c collets that the Hercus originally used allowed long pieces of stock to be passed through the length of the head stock spindle.
Mainly for small diameter repetitive work, your only limited by the collet bore and spindle bore.

Thanx Pipeclay now I understand the difference. If it was cheap it might be a thing to get but it will hit 500.00 I reckon LOL. I cant imagine doing a repetitive job anyway. There was a hercus here for sale other week with a turret set up on it. I had a look at it but couldnt see me using it at all. It would of just been more junk laying around.
Cheers
