Default Hercus Hackasaurus - where is the serial nr?

    Hi all,

New to this part of the forum. I am giving some new life to a tired old Hercus Hacksaw. From what can tell from the scant info available, I suspect it is maybe late 30's at earliest and late 40's at latest - but I am no expert.

I am doing a nut and bolt on it but have seen no serial number stamped anywhere.

Did they have the SN stamped on castings or a plate? If a plate - no chance then - all gone.

    All help appreciated.

    Greg.

Just ducked out to have a look at mine, probably around the same vintage, and I cannot find a serial number anywhere either. There's a brass makers plate detailing the oils to be used on the left of the saw and a McPhersons (the reseller) badge on the front but that's it. There's no sign of any missing plates either.

    Thanks Gavin,

Any excuse to duck out to the shed during the evening eh - good man - I do the same!! he heh.

I have two small holes on mine that look like it could have been for a plate - but that is about it. I've not seen a SN anywhere - even under the 'tub'.

What chance of a pic of your oils plate?

I'll have a go at it, it's pretty worn though.

Thank you Gavin - doesn't need to be anything special. I'll not be reproducing anything from it! ... yet .... I am more curious than anything. I am new to the Hercus world ... (though I do own a South Bend lathe - but a 10" not a 9").

Here are some photos of the 2 plates on mine, one is the original oil spec plate from FW Hercus, the other would have been affixed by the reseller.

    Thanks Gavin - much appreciated.

You have a rubber seal on the lift!! Fancy stuff.

There are no rivet holes on my machine in that area. Interesting.

    Thanks again,

    Greg.
