    You'll probably find that the gib is worn so it is tight in some places and loose in others. Really, the only long term fix is to scrape the compound.

    Any tips as to adjusting the cross slide gib?
    Anything to look out for while doing it would be most helpful for the newer lathe users.

    I bought the 2mm wide version, but I reckon 1.6mm would be better for my Hercus 260.
