Lightbulb Model A Apron on Model C Hercus Lathe?

    Random question out of curiosity
I have a Model C lathe with no power crossfeed, but I see Model A aprons come up on gumtree sometimes

Is it possible to mix and match, or is the leadscrew unique to model A or in a different position?

Anyone have any Model A lathes to compare with?

Oh and I'm talking a 9 inch varient

You will need to use a leadscrew with keyway to get your feeds, either an A or B or even your C if you cut the keyway,

Youll need to replace a bunch of parts. leadscrew, crossfeed screw, the apron and add a quick change gearbox. The screws that come with the A and B variants have a shorter leadscrew to account for the QCGB.

Maybe I just need to look out for a Model A Hercus!
You guys are talking about a keyway in the leadscrew, how does that fit in with the half nuts? (I'm picturing a full length key with a gear that slides with the carriage??)

If you look for a photo of an A carriage you will see a Star wheel, this has a worm and wheel behind it or somewhere in there, this provides the surfacing and sliding feeds when the desired direction is selected and the Star wheel/Clutch is tighten to engage the worm and wheel.
For threading the feed selector is placed in neutral and the half nuts are engaged , the half nuts clamp on the leadscrew ,the keyway causes no problem running through the half nuts.
